Reading for the Love of It Conference
The Reading for the Love of It conference is an annual language arts conference. The event takes place at the Toronto Sheraton Centre, 123 Queen Street West, on February 9 and 10. For additional information, visit http://readingfortheloveofit.com/index.html.
Mandatory Advising Sessions
All concurrent and part-time consecutive BEd teacher candidates proceeding into ED2 and ED3 next September should attend group advising. The ED1 sessions for P/J are scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, at 9 am and Thursday, February 23, at 1 pm. The ED1 sessions for J/I are on Wednesday, February 22, at 10 am and Thursday February 23, at 2 pm. The ED1 sessions for I/S are Wednesday, February 22 at 11 am, Thursday February 23, at 3 pm, and Friday, February 24, at 2 pm. The ED2 sessions for P/J are Thursday, February 23, at 9 am and Friday, February 24, at 11 am. The ED2 sessions for J/I are Thursday, February 23, at 10 am and Friday, February 24, at 10 am. The ED2 sessions for I/S are Wednesday, February 22, at 2 pm, Thursday, February 23, at 11 am, and Friday, February 24, at 9 am. All above mentioned sessions occur in MC 157A. Teacher candidates in the Jewish Teacher Education program option should meet on Wednesday, February 29, at 10:30 am in the Winters Sr. Common Room. The BEd (French) advising sessions will occur at Glendon on Wednesday, February 15, at 10 am for anyone in ED2 and 11 am for anyone in ED1 in Glendon Hall room 105.
Accepting Applications to the DHH Post-Graduate Diploma
The teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program is offered by the Faculty of Education at York University. The program is offered face-to-face for one academic year or part-time online over a 3 year period. Entry requirements are: Bachelor of education degree, membership in OCT and 2 courses in American Sign Language. All candidates must complete a residency requirement consisting of face-to-face attendance during the last week of August. Part-time candidates complete this requirement in their first or second year of the program. Additionally, all candidates complete 2-month long practicum. This program is offered tuition free by the Ministry of Education. Applications for full and part time programs are due March 15. President for a Day
President Mamdouh Shoukri is excited to swap roles with a York University undergraduate student for a day and learn what student life is like. The lucky student will then experience what it is like to be "President for a Day". President Shoukri will break out his pens and a backpack and attend the student's classes and other on-campus commitments while the student will be required to attend the President’s meetings, and partake in other presidential obligations and duties. All undergraduate students are welcome to submit an application to serve as President for a day. The nomination period ends February 6. Apply by submitting a 500-word video or written essay on the topic "President for a Day". Full contest rules can be found on the website www.yorku.ca/president/pres4aday.
June Convocation
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site. If any Full-Time or Part-Time Consecutive BEd students have already completed the online application, the information will be accepted; however, the Faculty of Education will mount the application to graduate for every consecutive student so it is not necessary for them to complete the application. The Faculty of Education convocation ceremonies will occur on June 15 at 10:30 am (full-time consecutive) and 3:30 pm (Deaf Education, part-time consecutive and concurrent BEd). Transcripts to OCT
Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to make arrangements themselves to order all post-secondary transcripts to be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Your transcripts must indicate your Bachelor of Education degree has been conferred. This means your transcripts should not be sent until after the June convocation. The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. Preparing to Teach Internationally
The new spring session of “Preparing to Teach Internationally”, a professional development course, is now open for registration. This course is available to university students inside and outside the Faculty of Education (York and non-York students), as well as teachers and principals. Classes for the WE term for the second half of the winter term quarter courses begins February 14 and end April 2. PRIJ 3032 section G taught by Lindsay Lamorre is on Fridays at 8:30 am in Tait McKenzie , PRIJ 3031 section M and JICO 3021 section X are taught together by Catherine Little on Fridays 830 am in McLaughlin 157A, JICO 3022 section B taught by Troy Fraser on Mondays at 8:30 am in Tait McKenzie, and JICO 3021 section A and PRIJ 3031 section X taught by Catherine Little on Mondays 8:30 am in York Lanes 234.
