University Holiday Closure
The last day in December for administrative offices to open on campus is December 23.   All administrative offices will be closed December 24 through to January 1.  Offices will re-open on January 2, 2014.  Classes begin on January 6.

Faculty of Education offices closed:  12 noon to end of day December 13th All Faculty of Education offices will be closed on Friday, December 13 from 12noon to end of day.   They will resume normal office hours on Monday, December 16.

Education Career Fair – January 9, 2014
All graduating teacher candidates are invited to attend the Education Career Fair on Thursday January 9th 2014. Please check your email for the invitation. You must RSVP online to receive the ticket. There are two sessions running to control traffic and all recruiters will stay for the whole duration. You only need to attend one of the two sessions. Carpooling is strongly suggested. Any ED1s and ED2s looking to volunteer at the fair can contact Cindy Jung (cjung@edu.yorku.ca).

June Convocation
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site. If any Full-Time or Part-Time Consecutive BEd students have already completed the online application, the information will be accepted; however, the Faculty of Education will mount the application to graduate for every consecutive student so it is not necessary for them to complete the online application. The actual date has not been set for the Faculty of Education Keele campus convocation convocation.   Web site can be found at http://www.yorku.ca/mygraduation.

Recommendation to OCT
All concurrent and part time consecutive graduating students for June 2014 convocation should submit their Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2014, to the Faculty of Education.

The online form is available through the Faculty of Education SharePoint Site at edu.yorku.ca. Log into Student SharePoint, select Undergraduate, then select OCT Registration Number Submission. This will require logging into Passport York.

In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate. To apply for OCT membership visit: www.oct.ca, select Members and then Create an Account.

Practicum Reports
Fall term practicum reports for Full-Time Consecutive teacher candidates are not to be faxed/sent to the Practicum Office. It is the responsibility of the teacher candidate to get a copy of the report from the mentor teacher (York University is no longer keeping them on file). Reports should not be housed at a consecutive site for any longer than this school year.

Religious Education: Teaching in Catholic Schools certificate course
This course is intended to introduce pre-service Teacher Candidates to professional practice and to extend knowledge and skills in the delivery of Ontario Catholic curriculum. The course is 36 hours in length and is comprised of 10 hours online and thirteen two-hour face-to-face sessions and may include a day retreat. This course answers the question, "What do I need to know to begin teaching in Ontario Catholic Schools?".

NOTE: THIS COURSE IS OPEN ONLY TO FACULTY OF EDUCATION STUDENTS IN A CONSECUTIVE PROGRAM OR CONCURRENT STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST YEAR ONE OF A CONCURRENT PROGRAM. THIS COURSE IS NOT EQUIVALENT TO THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION, PART 1 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION.

Dates: Wednesdays: January 8 - April 2, 2014 (7 - 9:00 pm). (Excluding February 19, 2013) PLUS 10 hours online and may include a day retreat.

Course Fee (+ HST): $200 + $26 HST = $226

Withdrawal deadline: Thursday, January 16, 2014. Course fee is fully refunded less $50 non-refundable amount up to and including January 16, 2014. No withdrawals or refunds after January 16, 2014.

Inclement Weather
Throughout the winter, in cases of inclement weather, the university will also post on its web site weather emergencies and university closures. For details, visit http://webapps.yorku.ca/weather/  At the full-time consecutive BEd sites which are not located on Keele campus, they should arrange with their site Course Director for phone/email notifications in case of the inclement weather.  Please note that the cancellation of one course on any given day but an instructor does not automatically cancel all classes on the same day. Please ensure you have clear communications on your class schedule.

Updating your contact information
Please remember if you change your residential address or phone number(s) you should update this information through York U. Online Service:  My Student Records and select   Change My Profile at http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/index.php.  Its’ also encouraged to add a contact person in case of emergency.
