Student Services Newsletter - September

Labour Day
All University offices will be closed on September 7 for Labour Day. This means there will be no service in person, by phone or via email. Office hours will resume on September 8.

ED2 & ED3 Orientation - September 8
All ED2 and ED3 teacher candidates are required to attend a full-day orientation on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, starting at 9am on Keele campus. Teacher candidates for ED2 should meet in CSE building Lecture Hall A and teacher candidates for ED3 should meet in ACW 109. This day will consist of morning presentations made by representatives from the Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ontario (ED2s) and the Ontario College of Teachers (ED3s) along with the various teacher federations. The afternoon will be the first seminar meeting related to practicum placement. The Faculty of Education will enrol all TCs into the appropriate seminar once placements are finalized at the end of September. The seminar will occur on the same day as the practicum placement. Teacher candidates will be told their Seminar Leaders and which subsequent eight dates they will meet when they attend the orientation on September 8 at Keele.

Work/Education Agreement Form
All teacher candidates involved in an education practicum must complete a Work/Education Placement Agreement for every placement. This form must be completed by both parties (teacher candidates and host schools) before teacher candidates begin their practicum in order to ensure Workplace Safety and Insurance coverage. This will be discussed in the practicum seminar tutorials. The form to be completed in September can be found online at
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/document/forms/631352.pdf

First Day of Classes
The first day of classes for F and Y term courses is September 9. Any outstanding course work for Education courses from the Fall/Winter 2008-2009 session or an undergraduate overall GPA below 5.0 as of the end of the Summer session will result in the withdrawal of the student from the Bachelor of Education program. A student must then prepare a petition to be reinstated in order to resume their studies with the Faculty of Education for Fall 2010.

Final Date to Enrol
The final date to enrol in F and Y term courses is September 24 without permission of the course instructor. Special permission of the instructor is required for enrolment in F term courses after that date and before October 9. For more information on add/drop dates, visit www.registrar.yorku.ca/importantdates/fw09.htm.
