Convocation

The dates for the June 2010 convocation ceremonies have been tentatively scheduled for June 11 - 19, 2010. As soon as the schedule has been confirmed, specific information will be posted on the university My Graduation Web site http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/. All concurrent and part-time consecutive BEd teacher candidates should apply to graduate. Concurrent BEd teacher candidates must apply to graduate from both their undergraduate and their Education degrees at the same time. Full-Time consecutive teacher candidates do NOT have to apply to graduate. There is no harm if they use the online system to apply to graduate but all full-time consecutive teacher candidates are initially put forward for convocation until final reporting of end-of-year grades and practicum reports. It is possible to receive an invitation to the convocation ceremony and to have your name appear in the convocation program but to be denied graduation due to unsuccessful completion of degree requirements, which surface after the preparations for convocation have already taken place. If you cannot attend the convocation ceremony, you can either have your diploma couriered to you, or pick it up. Full information is available on at http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/Convocation/diplomas/index.htm. Typically two weeks following convocation, all graduating teacher candidates will be automatically recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) by the Faculty of Education. However, please note that the teacher candidate is responsible for ordering all transcripts for any university study (undergraduate degree and Education degree) to the OCT. The Faculty of Education will not order transcripts for teacher candidates. Both the recommendation from the Faculty of Education and a person’s transcripts must be received by OCT in order to be certified to teach in Ontario. For more information related to OCT and membership, visit http://www.oct.ca/home.aspx.
