Sharepoint
A new online resource for our teacher candidates has been created on Sharepoint. This resource includes information for current students regarding awards, curriculum charts, convocation and important forms. To access Sharepoint, go to the Faculty of Education homepage http://edu.yorku.ca, click on “Sharepoint” on the top header, click on “Current Student Login” (use the same login as your Faculty of Education webmail) and select the “Undergraduate” tab. For information on your login and setting your password, visit http://blogs.yufe.ca/studentservices/2010/04/05/faculty-of-education-webmail/. For assistance, contact helpdesk@edu.yorku.ca.

Important Note for BEd (French)
After the advising session occurred, a decision was made to teach EDUC 3110 Teaching and Learning French Immersion section G in Winter 2011 on Fridays at 9:00 am with Prof. M. Peguret. This course is to be taken by all ED2 and ED3 teacher candidates in the BEd (French) program option.

Important Information for Graduating BEd Students
Recommendations for certification will be sent approximately 1-2 weeks after convocation from the Faculty of Education to the Ontario College of Teachers for graduating students. The Faculty of Education cannot recommend teacher candidates to the Ontario Teaching Certificate without the OCT registration number for each teacher candidate. Please submit your OCT registration number to http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/octnumberform.php prior to convocation. It is the responsibility of all teacher candidates to send their official transcripts for the undergraduate degree and their BEd to OCT. The transcripts must have the notation that the degree was conferred. Please specify when ordering transcripts that they should be sent after graduation. The Faculty of Education does not send transcripts. All BEd (French) teacher candidates should note that they will graduate with a BEd in the Primary/Junior division as well as French as a Second Language (FSL) Part 1. For more information on convocation, read one of our previous Student Services newsletters which was posted for February http://blogs.yufe.ca/studentservices/2010/02/10/student-services-newsletter-february/.

Online Course Evaluations
Now's the time to complete your online course evaluations! All Concurrent BEd teacher candidates can give their feedback on their instructors for Winter term and Full Year courses from Saturday, March 27 to Tuesday, April 6. If you have already submitted your online evaluations on March 16 and March 17, no data from completed evaluations were lost when the system was subsequently shutdown for upgrades. All data collected from students that completed their evaluations is fully intact. Please note that on-line course evaluations for Consecutive BEd courses are not currently available. Consecutive on-line course evaluations will be available from April 19, 2010 - May 7, 2010. (Please note that some courses will be evaluated through the use of paper forms during class time.) We want to hear from you! Your opinion counts! Please go to http://courseevaluations.yorku.ca/ to submit your courses evaluations.

Final Grades
Full Year and Winter term grades will be released incrementally to the students' on-line grade reports and transcripts as soon as they are uploaded onto the system by the instructor. On Thursday, May 6, all blank grades will have the qualifier "NGR" (No Grade Reported) added to the record. On Thursday, May 20, (blank) NGR will be converted to "F" NGR indicating a failure in the course. Final averages and academic decisions will be available to students on the web and transcripts on Tuesday, May 11.

2010 Tuition and Fees
A decision has been made to keep tuition the same for Summer 2010 as they were for Fall/Winter 2009-10. Standard annual increases to referenda or ancillary fees apply that are normally effective in the summer session. Summer tuition and fees are expected to be posted by the end of this week on the Web site for Student Financial Services http://sfs.yorku.ca/ and included in the April 18, 2010 statement. Fall/Winter 2010-11 tuition and fees are expected to be posted at the end of June 2010. All students are reminded that they must still pay their $450 enrolment deposit within 5 days of enrolling, even if the assessments are not yet appearing on their student account statement.

Summer Elective Waitlist
The online waitlist for Summer Education electives is no longer available. All the names on the online waitlist will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Priority on the waitlist is granted to ED2 students going into ED3 who have zero credits towards their elective requirement. Next we consider ED2 students going into ED3 who have 3 credits and then we consider students going into ED3 with 6 credits. A student’s priority on the waitlist will drop as he/she is able to successfully enrol in Education electives. If you wish to add your name to the elective waitlist and did not use the online waitlist prior to March 31, please email our Director, Student Services, at gkim@edu.yorku.ca with your request. There is no guarantee that spaces will become available for students on the waitlist.

ED1 Community Field Placement for 2009-2010
All ED1 Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive Teacher Candidates are required to do 50 hours of placement in order to satisfy the requirement of the Field Experience Practicum. This is completed at different times depending on the Field Experience Practicum placement. The Faculty of Education expects all teacher candidates to be at placement until the last week of March regardless of when the last CMYR 2100 seminar class occurs. Students can always leave their completed hours log in their professor's mailbox at Main Reception 135 Winters College.

ED2/ED3 Practicum for 2010-2011
Congratulations to David Guida for being the first to complete the online practicum form! Please drop by the Practicum Office in 108 Winters College to claim your prize for your prompt response. ED1 and ED2 Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates, except Jewish Teacher Education and BEd (French), must complete an online practicum form if they require a practicum placement for the next academic year. The online form can only be submitted once so please carefully consider the day of the week and the geographic zones you wish to choose (e.g. Zone 1 – Toronto East) before going to the online form. To access the map defining the available surrounding geographic regions, visit http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/Placement_Zones.jpg and to access the new online practicum form for next year's placements, go to https://wrem.sis.yorku.ca/Apps/WebObjects/ydml.woa/wa/document?name=EDPracticum2. For more information on the submission of your practicum form, please read a previous message which was posted on our Student Services blog http://blogs.yufe.ca/studentservices/2010/03/05/online-practicum-placement-form/. Where we can place you will depend on what our host schools are willing to offer us. Practicum placements for 2010-2011 will be postage mailed to students’ permanent addresses. If you are changing your practicum day after you build your Fall/Winter schedule in June or if you have not received your practicum placement in the mail by middle of August, please contact our Practicum Office at practicumoffice@edu.yorku.ca.

Stop Out Year
Teacher candidates who will be on a Stop-Out next year will not need to complete a practicum preference form since the Faculty of Education does not need to arrange a practicum for them until the following year. Although the final deadline to submit a Stop-Out Authorization Form is April 30, the Practicum Office would appreciate any teacher candidate who is planning to take a Stop-Out year in Fall/Winter 2010-2011 to submit their form as soon as possible to 128 Winters College. To download the PDF for the Stop-Out Authorization form, visit http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/pdf/stop-out_authorization.pdf. Unless a Stop-Out form is received, teacher candidates will continue to receive reminder emails regarding practicum next year.

Concurrent BEd Change of Major/Program
The Change My Program Request form must be submitted by April 30 to 128 Winters College, for any teacher candidates who wish to change certification levels or teaching subjects. Once the Fall/Winter enrolment period begins, the Faculty of Education will not allow any changes of major until the following session. Any changes made after submitting your practicum placement request form may delay your placement in schools. The fill-able request form can be found at http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/services/changes/index.htm.

Advising Appointment
If a teacher candidate missed one of the group advising sessions held in March, he/she must make an appointment to meet with one of our advisors, Marc Powell or Lisa D’Aiuto. To book an advising appointment with one of the Faculty of Education advisors, visit https://apps2.sis.yorku.ca/Apps/WebObjects/SAB.woa/wa/sab?param=ed_curr.

Ineligible to Continue
Concurrent students are "ineligible to continue in the Faculty of Education" when the grade point average in the co-registered Faculty drops below 5.00 or a grade of less than C+ is received in any education course. Enrolment in the Faculty of Education will then be blocked. If you have already enrolled in education courses for fall/winter you will automatically be de-enrolled. An ED3 student who has completed the Faculty of Education degree requirements satisfactorily will be ineligible to graduate if undergraduate degree requirements are not complete. All students who are ineligible should visit BEd Student Services, Faculty of Education in 128 Winters College to schedule an advising appointment.
