Sessional Dates
Happy New Year! Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive BEd students return to classes beginning Tuesday, January 4. Please note there will be no classes and university offices will be closed on Monday, February 21, for Family Day. York University’s winter term Reading Week will occur February 19-25. International Practicum for FT Consecutive BEd – Apply by Jan. 7
Full-Time Consecutive BEd students in the Faculty of Education at York University have the opportunity to complete their final teaching block (for the month of May) in an international location through the International Practicum Placement (IPP) program. Placements in May 2011 will be in Nicaragua, Kenya and the People’s Republic of China. Interested candidates should speak with their Course Directors in order to obtain an application package. Spaces in this program are limited. The application deadline is Friday, January 7 at 4:00 pm. Further information can be found in SharePoint under the “International” section https://sharepoint.edu.yorku.ca/sites/fedstudents.

Online Practicum Forms
All ED1 Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive BEd students must complete an online practicum form to indicate their preferences for weeks in May and geographic regions for their one-week observations to occur. Students enrolled in the regular Keele campus BEd program (not Jewish Teacher Education), should visit http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/oneweek.html to complete their submission prior to January 7. Students enrolled in the BEd (French) program, should visit http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/oneweekfrench.html to complete their submission prior to February 1.

Boards/Career Fair
The Faculty of Education’s annual Boards/Career Fair is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 13 at the Paradise Banquet & Convention Centre, 7601 Jane Street, Concord, Ontario, L4K 1X2 (www.paradisehalls.com). This event is only for graduating teacher candidates and is by invitation only. All ED3 and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates should have received an e-mail with more details. Tickets are distributed to all Full-Time Consecutive teacher candidates through their site Course Directors and FESA representatives. Parking will be available free of charge at the venue parking lot. It is not necessary to respond to this email to RSVP for the event. Summer Science Reminders
If you have not already done so, please submit your Practicum Placement form to Jennifer Watt in the Practicum Office (108 Winters College) immediately. The deadline for Summer Science BEd students to change their teaching subject(s) is February 1. Please note you will need to maintain Math/Science combinations for teaching subjects to remain eligible for the Summer Science program. Summer Science candidates are eligible for a stop-out, which would mean taking a Summer off. If you are contemplating a Stop-out for SU11, you will still be required to attend a teaching subject course from April 25 - 29, 2011. The deadline for submitting the Stop-Out request form is also February 1. Any Summer Science BEd students completing ED2 in SU11 will be able to take ED/EDUC 3000A 3.00 or EDUC 3000 3.00 Teaching Religious Education during FW2011, is he/she wishes to apply to teach in the Catholic school boards.

ED3 Quarter Courses for P/J and J/I
Classes for the WD term for winter term quarter courses to be taken by ED3 P/J and J/I Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates begin January 4 and end February 14. The WD term includes JICO 3022 section A and PRIJ 3032 section X on Mondays at 8:30 am with Prof. Jennifer Gilbert. Please contact the instructor to confirm the meeting place for the first class. The JICO 3021 course section B occurs Mondays at 8:30 am in York Lanes 234. The PRIJ 3032 course section M and JICO 3022 section X are taught on Fridays at 8:30 am with Lindsay LaMorre in Tait McKenzie. Please confirm with the instructor if students should meet in the upper gym or Tait McKenzie room 316 for the first class. Students in the BEd (French) program should begin their PRIJ 3031 on Friday, January 7, at 12:00 pm in York Hall B211 with Course Director, Stefanie Muhling. Classes for the WE term begin February 15 and end April 4. Summer 2011: The ESL in Taiwan Program – Apply by Feb. 18
York BEd 2011 graduating teacher candidates can acquire an ESL Part 1 AQ with an intermediate and secondary focus and the experience of teaching ESL for AYJGlobal in cooperation with the Toronto District School Board’s Continuing Education Department for 3 to 4 weeks in Taipei, Taiwan. Practicum Reports
Fall term practicum reports for Full-Time Consecutive teacher candidates are not to be faxed/sent to the Practicum Office. It is the responsibility of the teacher candidate to get a copy of the report from the mentor teacher (York University is no longer keeping them on file). Reports should not be housed at a consecutive site for any longer than this school year.

June Convocation
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site. If any Full-Time or Part-Time Consecutive BEd students have already completed the online application, the information will be accepted; however, the Faculty of Education will mount the application to graduate for every consecutive student so it is not necessary for them to complete the application. The actual date has not been set for the Faculty of Education Keele campus convocation but the ceremonies will occur the week of June 13-17. The convocation ceremony at Glendon will occur June 18.
