Revised Sessional Dates
Please be advised that for Concurrent and Part-Time BEd students, Tuesday, April 5, 2011, is a make-up day for yesterday’s snow day. Please note that all classes originally scheduled on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 will be automatically rescheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in their existing assigned rooms. Full-Time consecutive BEd students should consult with their sites for information on make-up days. All university offices will be closed on Monday February 21, for Family Day. York University’s winter term reading week will occur February 21-25 for Concurrent and Part-Time BEd students. Full-Time Consecutive students will continue to attend classes and practicum during that week. Building Futures Conference

Reading for the Love of It Conference

Additional Qualification Courses
Destination AQs http://www.raiseyouraq.ca/destinationaqs/ in France, Italy, Greece and Ecuador & the Galapogos are offered in conjunction with Georgia Hardy Tours, a leader with 34 years in the education travel industry. ESL in Taiwan http://edu.yorku.ca/profdev/taiwan-new-grad/ gives BED graduates an opportunity to travel, learn & work this summer. York BEd 2011 candidates can acquire an ESL Part 1 AQ with an intermediate and secondary focus and the experience of teaching ESL for AYJGlobal in cooperation with the Toronto District School Board's Continuing Education Department for 3 to 4 weeks in Taipei, Taiwan. Deadline to apply is February 18, 2011. York’s New BEd Grad Program http://edu.yorku.ca/profdev/grad2011.html is designed to give Bachelor of Education graduates an edge to set them apart from the thousands of other new grads who will enter the work force after graduation. The New B.Ed Grad AQ Program has been designed especially with new graduates in mind and is tailored to explore and answer questions that may be unique to a new teacher. Registration closes May 13, 2011.
Online Practicum Form
The online practicum form for ED2 and ED3 placements is live and available at http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/practicum.html. This is only students in the BEd program at Keele campus (excluding Jewish Teacher Education). Click on the gray button "Online Practicum Form click here" which will lead you to a Passport York site. All ED2 students going into ED3 for the BEd (French) program can locate their online practicum form at http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/frenchpracticum.html. We recommend students use Mozilla Firefox as the web browser. Should you see an error message regarding the security certificate, please click on continue to bypass this error message. It means the web browser you are using does not recognize Passport York but once you click continue, you should be able to complete the form. The online submission for the Keele BEd practicum form is due February 25. The online practicum form for BEd (French) is due March 1.
Awards and Bursaries
Faculty of Education bursaries and awards are granted on the basis of student financial need, with some consideration given to academic progress. Some awards will have additional criteria, which you can find on the individual award descriptions. The deadline to apply for bursaries and awards is March 1, 2011. Make sure to submit all additional information as indicated on the description. In order to be eligible for a student award, students must go to the Student Financial Services website http://sfs.yorku.ca/scholarships/current/scholar.htm to complete the student financial profile. Accepting Applications to the DHH Post-Graduate Diploma
The teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program is offered by the Faculty of Education at York University. The program is offered face-to-face for one academic year or part-time online over a 3 year period. Entry requirements are: Bachelor of education degree, membership in OCT and 2 courses in American Sign Language. All candidates must complete a residency requirement consisting of face-to-face attendance during the last week of August. Part-time candidates complete this requirement in their first or second year of the program. Additionally, all candidates complete 2-month long practicum. This program is offered tuition free by the Ministry of Education. Applications for full and part time programs are due March 15, 2011. Current ED1/ED2 Mandatory Group Advising
For Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates currently in their ED1 or ED2 year, attending one group advising session is mandatory, unless they are planning a Stop Out Year for 2011-2012. Any teacher candidate who are currently on a Stop-Out Year this year and are returning to the BEd should also attend. Sessions are two hours in length. Please arrive on time. Summer Education Electives
Because the Faculty of Education uses compressed summer sessions that the rest of the university does not use, not all the summer Education electives are published in the university’s summer lecture schedule. Nine Education electives will be offered during Summer 2011 during various periods. Please note that enrolment in Education electives is managed through a waitlist process. Priority is given to ED3 teacher candidates with less than 6 credits of Education electives. More information regarding the elective waitlist will be available in the Student Services Newsletter for March. Convocation
The June convocation ceremony for the Full-Time Consecutive BEd program will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 10:30 am. The ceremony for the Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive program will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 3:30 pm. All graduates should arrive two hours before the start of the ceremony for robing and marshalling. For specific instructions and further details, visit http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad. Teacher candidates in the Full-Time and Part-Time Consecutive BEd program do not have to apply to graduate. However, Concurrent BEd teacher candidates should apply to graduate. Please note that the Concurrent Bachelor of Education degree is awarded at the same convocation ceremony as the undergraduate degree. Students in the BEd (French) program should specify which ceremony (Keele or Glendon) they wish to attend when they apply to graduate so that their diplomas can be shipped to the appropriate ceremony. All BEd (French) teacher candidates should note that they will graduate with a BEd in the Primary/Junior division as well as French as a Second Language (FSL) Part 1. If a Concurrent BEd teacher candidate completes degree requirements for one degree in time for June convocation but still has missing requirements for the other degree, he/she should not expect to convocate in June with one degree and convocate in October with the other. Graduation for both degrees must be delayed until all degree requirements for both degrees have been satisfied. If you do not convocate in June 2010, then you will not be certified to teach in time for September since the next convocation occurs in October. It is the responsibility of all teacher candidates to send their official transcripts for the undergraduate degree and their BEd to OCT. The transcripts must have the notation that the degree was conferred. Specify when you order your transcripts that they should be sent after graduation. Pay In Your Pajamas
