Cancellation of Two Summer Electives

Elective Waitlist
Only if courses are full, should teacher candidates add their names to the Faculty of Education elective waitlist. First priority on the elective waitlist will be students going into ED3 who have zero credits of Education electives. Next priority will be ED3s who have 3 credits. Any ED3 students already possessing 6 credits of Education electives will be considered after the other two priority groups have been accommodated. Space and enrolment targets will be also limit how many students we can accommodate for the summer electives. ED3 students will definitely be granted priority on the elective waitlist for fall/winter courses for when the time comes so that we can ensure they have the 9 credits (P/J and I/S) or 6 credits (J/I) in total of electives required to graduate. Students can access the waitlist form through Sharepoint https://sharepoint.edu.yorku.ca/sites/fedstudents/ug/Elective%20Waitlist%20SU11/Forms/AllItems.aspx. The login for Sharepoint is the same as what is used for your to access your webmail (your Faculty of Education email account). Please select add document and complete the form. Once the form is completed, your name is added to the Education elective waitlist. Spaces may or may not become available. If spaces in the desired elective course become available, students will be notified through their Faculty of Education email account.
Advising Make Up Sessions
Fall/Winter enrolment will be blocked for continuing students who do not attend an advising session. For Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates currently in their ED1 or ED2 year, who did not attend the advising sessions held in February, additional make up sessions have been scheduled for March. On Wednesday, March 16, in York Lanes 234 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am an advising session will be held for all ED1 students who will be in ED2 (for all divisions) next Fall/Winter session. Also on March 16, BEd (French) teacher candidates will be advised in their PRAC 4000G seminar. On Thursday, March 17, in York Lanes 234 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, an advising session will be held for ED2 students who will be in ED3 (for all divisions) next Fall/Winter session. On March 18 in York Lanes 234 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am a second make up session will run for all ED1 students who will be in ED2 in September 2011. On March 18 in York Lanes 234 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm another session will be available for all ED2 students going into ED3.
Online Practicum or Stop Out Authorization Form
For any student who is continuing their BEd studies in September 2011, an online practicum preference form should be completed as soon as possible. Please note that the online practicum form is not the same form that any students in ED1 would have completed for their one-week observation. If, however, you are planning to go on Stop Out Year, please complete the Stop Out Authorization form and return this to BEd Student Services located in 128 Winters College. Both the online practicum preference form and the PDF for the Stop Out Authorization form are posted on the practicum webpage at http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/practicum.html. The teacher candidates in the BEd (French) program option should complete a separate online practicum form, which can be found at http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/frenchpracticum.html.
Awards
All graduating teacher candidates are reminded to apply for graduation awards. Some awards require faculty nomination. Students may wish to approach their instructors for a nomination for the Cornerstone Leadership award and the Robert M Brooks OSSTF award. Please review the Faculty of Education Awards page in Sharepoint https://sharepoint.edu.yorku.ca/sites/fedstudents/ug/awards/default.aspx. The login for Sharepoint is the same as what is used for your to access your webmail (your Faculty of Education email account). The application deadline is May 2, 2011, for all graduation awards.
Preparing to Graduate
The June convocation ceremony for the Full-Time Consecutive BEd program will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 10:30 am. The ceremony for the Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive program will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011, at 3:30 pm. For more information on convocation, visit http://www.yorku.ca/mygraduation/. Teacher candidates in the Full-Time and Part-Time Consecutive BEd program do not have to apply to graduate. However, Concurrent BEd teacher candidates should apply to graduate. Please note that the Concurrent Bachelor of Education degree is awarded at the same convocation ceremony as the undergraduate degree. Students in the BEd (French) program should specify which ceremony (Keele or Glendon) they wish to attend when they apply to graduate so that their diplomas can be shipped to the appropriate campus ceremony. It is the responsibility of all teacher candidates to send their official transcripts for the undergraduate degree and their BEd to OCT. The transcripts must have the notation that the degree was conferred. Specify when you order your transcripts that they should be sent after graduation. The Faculty of Education does not send transcripts. For more specific information on how to order York University transcripts, visit http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/services/everything/transcripts/index.htm. Following convocation, the Faculty of Education will automatically send recommendations to OCT for teacher candidates to be certified. It is not necessary to contact our office to request that this occur.
Preparing to Teach Internationally
A new professional development course is available in June. “Preparing to Teach Internationally” is a five-day program designed for educators and others who are interested in teaching internationally or for those who would like to gain a greater understanding of elementary, secondary and adult education in a global context. Additional Qualification Courses
Destination AQs in France, Italy, Greece and Ecuador & the Galapogos are offered in conjunction with Georgia Hardy Tours, a leader with 34 years in the education travel industry. York’s New B.Ed Grad Program is designed to give Bachelor of Education graduates an edge to set them apart from the thousands of other new grads who will enter the work force after graduation. The New B.Ed Grad AQ Program has been designed especially with new graduates in mind and is tailored to explore and answer questions that may be unique to a new teacher. Registration closes May 13, 2011.
Applications to the DHH Post-Graduate Diploma
The teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program is offered by the Faculty of Education at York University. The program is offered face-to-face for one academic year or part-time online over a 3 year period. Entry requirements are: Bachelor of education degree, membership in OCT and 2 courses in American Sign Language. All candidates must complete a residency requirement consisting of face-to-face attendance during the last week of August. Part-time candidates complete this requirement in their first or second year of the program. Additionally, all candidates complete 2-month long practicum. This program is offered tuition free by the Ministry of Education. Applications for full and part time programs are due March 15, 2011. International Women’s Day
The Centre for Human Rights, SASSL, DPET, Amnesty International and Feminist Action @ YU are hosting a series of events in recognition of International Women’s Day. On March 7 from 5 pm to 8pm in The Underground live music and spoken word performances will take place.
