I/S Teaching Subjects
There is potential for conflicts or repetition in choosing similar teaching subjects, such as ones that fall under the business, computer studies or economics, geography, environmental science and science category. Although you may select these combinations, we would like to advise you that you may have the same course director and same course outline for both teaching subject classes. Some of the above subjects (e.g. business studies), depending on numbers, may only be available through independent study courses. When selecting your two teaching subjects, candidates should note the academic requirements for each subject and the prerequisites for curriculum and instruction courses. For the intermediate/senior program a minimum of 24 credits (four full university courses) in the subject area must be taken in order to register in the teaching subject curriculum and instruction course. A candidate requires a minimum of 36 credits (six full university courses) in one teaching subject area and 24 credits (four full university courses) in the other area to graduate.

Update Personal Information
If you are a part-time consecutive or concurrent BEd student going into ED2 or ED3 and you did not receive your practicum information, which included details on orientation, in the mail, this may mean your mailing address has not been updated on the university student record system. Students should keep their personal information, including current address, up-to-date on their university  student record. Visit the Current Students web site http://www.yorku.ca/yorkweb/cs.htm and click on “Update my personal information” under My Student Records.

Petitions
Students who are ineligible to continue cannot return to the Faculty of Education unless they petition to be reinstated and are able to explain why they did not meet the requirements of the program. The academic petitions package can be found on the Registrar’s Office web site http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/petitions/academic/index.htm . If medical reasons are cited, please ask your doctor to complete the Attending Physician’s Statement. Students cannot petition to be reinstated if their undergraduate overall GPA is below 5.0. Only after students have improved their GPA can they submit a petition.

Pattern of Study
To view the Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive BEd curriculum, please refer to the Undergraduate Calendar at http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/calendars/2011-2012/faculty_rules/ED/concurrent_pattern.htm.

Practicum Evaluations
All TCs should keep a copy of their final practicum reports in their personal files. Before the end of this academic year, TCs should ensure they have the reports from their mentor teachers. The Faculty of Education we will not be keeping these on file.
