Office Closures
All York University offices will be closed on Monday, October 10, 2011 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will not occur the week October 10-14. Please note that in the Faculty of Education Student Services offices in WC 128, 108 and 113 will be closed for a staff retreat on Thursday, October 13. Drop-ins or phone inquiries will be responded to on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday during this week.
Fall Co-Curricular Week
University offices will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, October 11. During the Fall Co-Curricular Week, students can take advantage of various workshops hosted by the library, learning skills, career services and some faculties. Learning Skills Services
Workshops related to time management, note taking, academic writing, and presentation skills are available in the Scott Library in the Sound and Moving Library (SMIL) Screening Room 124. Drop in hours are also available in the Learning Commons (2nd floor) every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Students are encouraged to participate in the Passport to Success program where they will receive a certificate after attending eight Learning Skills Services workshops. Are You on the Official Classlist?
A teacher candidate will not receive a final grade for coursework if he/she is not listed on the official classlist. You should not attend classes for a section that is not the one listed on your student record. Because official classlists are used for submitting final grades, if you are listed on a classlist for one section but attending another, you will receive a failure grade because you did not submit assignments to the instructor for the section where your name appears on the classlist.
Degree Requirement Student Checklist
Students in the Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive BEd can check that they have completed all the requirements for their BEd by using the checklist available on SharePoint https://sharepoint.edu.yorku.ca/sites/fedstudents/ug/default.aspx. The degree requirement checklists are listed under “Links” on the left-hand side of the Undergraduate homepage. You will need to log in to Passport York. Candidates in Summer Science, Indigenous Education, Jewish Teacher Education and the BEd (French) program options must also check their specific BEd program requirements separately.
Summer Exchange to Germany
There is a mandatory information session for Concurrent BEd students who are interested in an exchange program in Freiburg, Germany in the summer of 2012 (April to July).While on exchange, students can enroll in English-speaking courses. It is possible to take German language classes during the program.You will pay your tuition at York University. You will also be responsible for paying for your airfare, housing, textbooks, travel medical insurance and other living expenses. You will have the opportunity to apply for funding from PH Freiburg and from York International. The mandatory information session will be on October 24 at 2:30pm room 286C Winters College. Applications will be distributed during the session. Applications must be submitted by November 8, 2011.
