University Holiday Closure
The last day in December for administrative offices to open on campus is December 22. All administrative offices will be closed December 23 through to January 2. Offices will re-open on January 3. Classes also begin on January 3.
Online Course Evaluations
Online course evaluations for full-time consecutive fall term courses (period code 1) are available to students until December 16. Your input is very valuable to us. It will help improve and enhance student experience and satisfaction in courses. All your input is kept completely confidential and no information is released to instructors before final grades are submitted. Awards and Bursaries
A unique new 3M award for undergraduate students, sponsored by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and 3M, has been created to recognize individual students for their outstanding leadership qualities and achievement in advanced student learning of post-secondary students.Each award is valued at $5,000. The deadline to apply is January 7, 2012. For more details, visit http://www.stlhe.ca/awards/3m-national-student-fellowships/ Each year, the University of Toronto chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International sponsors the Henry Jackman Award valued at $500 for an educator currently attending a Faculty of Education in the Greater Toronto area. A copy of a current student card, two signed original letters of education references, a resume and a 500-word essay is required. The essay should address the following topic - In Motion Leadership: The Skinny on Becoming Change Savvy (2010) , Michael Fullan states, “Capacity building concerns the knowledge, skills, and disposition of people individually but especially collectively. It is the group with shared purpose and skills that gets things done. (p.45)”. Consider a personal capacity building experience in education and reflect on the role of collaboration in contributing to your personal growth as an educator. Your response (approximately 500 words) should be mailed to Linda Massey, Ontario Principals’ Council, 180 Dundas Street West, 25th Floor, Toronto, Ontario, M5G 1Z8. Education Career Fair
The annual Education Career Fair is scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2012. School board personnel and international agency representatives will be present. This event is exclusively open to graduating teacher candidates. All ED3, Part-Time Consecutive and Full-Time Consecutive BEd graduating students will receive an invitation email in December with more information.
Transcripts to OCT
Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to make arrangements themselves to order all post-secondary transcripts to be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Your transcripts must indicate your Bachelor of Education degree has been conferred. This means your transcripts should not be sent until after the June convocation. The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. June Convocation
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site. If any Full-Time or Part-Time Consecutive BEd students have already completed the online application, the information will be accepted; however, the Faculty of Education will mount the application to graduate for every consecutive student so it is not necessary for them to complete the online application. The actual date has not been set for the Faculty of Education Keele campus convocation but the ceremonies will occur the week of June 11-16. ED3 Summer Science
For Summer Science students who have already completed two summers and plan to graduate June 2012, a third summer with the Faculty of Education is required. A 20-day block in the month of May will need to be completed. Students should enroll themselves into PRAC 4000 Section M in the winter term(Cat # X75F01). If students have not yet satisfied the 9 credits for Education electives, they must enroll in Education electives for the winter 2012 term in order to graduate in June. ED2 Summer Science

ED1 One-Week Observation
If you are a concurrent or part-time consecutive BEd student and have not done so already, please complete the online practicum form for the ED1 One-Week Observation form as soon as possible. Please be advised that the school zone and Board preferences that you select for your ED1 one-week observation placement will also determine your placement for ED2. Practicum Reports
Fall term practicum reports for Full-Time Consecutive teacher candidates are not to be faxed/sent to the Practicum Office. It is the responsibility of the teacher candidate to get a copy of the report from the mentor teacher (York University is no longer keeping them on file). Reports should not be housed at a consecutive site for any longer than this school year.

International Practicum for Full-Time Consecutive BEd
Full-Time Consecutive BEd students in the Faculty of Education at York University have the opportunity to complete their final teaching block (for the month of May) in an international location through the International Practicum Placement (IPP) program. Placements in May 2011 will be in Nicaragua, Kenya and the People’s Republic of China. Interested candidates should speak with their Course Directors in order to obtain an application package. Spaces in this program are limited. The application deadline is Friday, January 7 at 4:00 pm. Summer 2011: The ESL in Taiwan Program
York BEd 2011 graduating teacher candidates can acquire an ESL Part 1 AQ with an intermediate and secondary focus and the experience of teaching ESL for AYJGlobal in cooperation with the Toronto District School Board’s Continuing Education Department for 3 to 4 weeks in Taipei, Taiwan. Preparing to Teach Internationally
The new spring session of “Preparing to Teach Internationally”, a professional development course, is now open for registration. This course is available to university students inside and outside the Faculty of Education (York and non-York students), as well as teachers and principals. The course is taught on April 28, May 5, May 12, May 26 and June 2 (five-hour classes) on York’s Keele campus. The deadline to register is March 31, 2012. Inclement Weather
Throughout the winter, in cases of inclement weather, the university will also post on its web site weather emergencies and university closures. For details, visit http://webapps.yorku.ca/weather/. At the full-time consecutive BEd sites which are not located on Keele campus, they should arrange with their site Course Director for phone/email notifications in case of the inclement weather. Please note that the cancellation of one course on any given day but an instructor does not automatically cancel all classes on the same day. Please ensure you have clear communications on your class schedule.
