The Faculty of Education would like to welcome our new students in the BEd Technological Education program starting this summer.
Submit the Practicum Enrolment Form before June 30, 2015
Any Concurrent and Part Time Consecutive teacher candidates heading into ED 2 or 3 and were unable to attend the group advising sessions in February and March are required to book an individual advising appointment with an Education Advisor to go over course requirements and fill out the FW 2015-16 Practicum Enrolment form.

During the months of May through to end of August the Office of Student Services will be offering three days of individual advising - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm. To book an appointment visit:

Graduating this June??
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site: http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/preparing/apply/. If any Full-Time or Part-Time Consecutive BEd students have already completed the online application, the information will be accepted; however, the Faculty of Education will mount the application to graduate for every consecutive student so it is not necessary for them to complete the application.
The Faculty of Education convocation ceremonies will occur on Thursday, June 18, 2015

Recommendation to OCT All concurrent, full time and part time consecutive graduating students for June 2015 convocation must be certified before September 1, 2015 to be considered under the current requirements. June 2015 graduates must apply prior to August 31, 2015 and are required to submit their Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2015 to the Faculty of Education.
The online form is available through the Faculty of Education SharePoint Site at edu.yorku.ca. Log into Student SharePoint, select Undergraduate, then select OCT Registration Number Submission. This will require logging into Passport York.
In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate. To apply for OCT membership visit: www.oct.ca, select Members and then Create an Account.
Transcripts to OCT
Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to make arrangements themselves to order all post-secondary transcripts to be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Your transcripts must indicate your Bachelor of Education degree has been conferred. This means your transcripts should not be sent until after the June convocation. The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification. For more information, visit http://www.oct.ca/become_a_teacher/?lang=en-CA.
Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Enrolment
Enrolment window assignments can be found online at http://www.yorku.ca/yorkweb/cs.htm under the “COURSES & ENROLMENT” click on ENROLMENT AND REGISTRATION GUIDE, then Find out when I can enrol. Enrolment will occur throughout the entire month of June.
I/S Teaching Subjects
There is potential for conflicts or repetition in choosing similar teaching subjects, such as ones that fall under the business, computer studies or economics, geography, environmental science and science category. Although you may select these combinations, we would like to advise you that you may have the same course director and same course outline for both teaching subject classes. Some of the above subjects (e.g. business studies), depending on numbers, may only be available through independent study courses. When selecting your two teaching subjects, candidates should note the academic requirements for each subject and the prerequisites for curriculum and instruction courses. For the intermediate/senior program a minimum of 24 credits (four full university courses) in the subject area must be taken in order to register in the teaching subject curriculum and instruction course. A candidate requires a minimum of 36 credits (six full university courses) in one teaching subject area and 24 credits (four full university courses) in the other area to graduate.
ED/EDUC 1000 Rethinking Schooling: A “Re-Introduction” Is not an elective course. This course is offered to students admitted to the Pre-Education BEd Concurrent program.
ED/EDUC 3760 Early and Family Literacy – Is offered to teacher candidates enrolled in the Primary/Junior teaching level. TC’s in the Intermediate/Senior level should not enroll in the course.
Ineligible to Continue
Any BEd student who has an overall GPA less than C+ (5.00) in their undergraduate degree or receives a grade of less than C+ in any Education course or receives a F grade in practicum is ineligible to continue or graduate. To petition to be reinstated, students must submit an academic petition to 128 Winters College. Concurrent BEd students’ petitions will only be considered if their GPA in their undergraduate meets the minimum 5.00 requirement. To petition for retroactive withdrawal for an Education course or to repeat a failed practicum, the student should explain the failure, what went wrong and why this will not occur next time. If you have any supporting letters from your practicum mentor teacher or seminar leader, you should also include this with your academic petition. If there are any medical reasons, you should also have the Attending Physician's Statement completed. AQs for Class of 2015 B.Ed. Graduates
The Faculty of Education is offering its new B.Ed. graduates the opportunity to complete an additional qualification in Spring 2015 tailored to the needs of new teachers entering the profession. Offered at York University Keele campus between May 25 and June 5, 2015, teacher candidates can apply to one of three AQs: Special Education Part 1; Intermediate Basic Dramatic Arts; Mathematics, Primary/Junior, Part 1.
