Fall/Winter Education Elective Waitlist
The Fall/Winter Education Waitlist is available on the Student SharePoint.
Priority is given to teacher candidates going into their ED3 year, who need the credits to graduate. First priority on the waitlist is granted to ED2 students going into ED3 who have zero credits towards their elective requirement. Next we consider ED2 students going into ED3 who have 3 credits and then we consider students going into ED3 with 6 credits. This means, that your priority on the waitlist will drop as you are able to successfully enroll in Education electives. For example, if you are going into ED3 but already are enrolled in two electives and you wish to enroll in a third course, you need to understand that we would want to accommodate ED2 teacher candidates going into ED3 with zero or three credits towards their elective requirement over you who has 6 credits.

Please note:
ED/EDUC 1000 Rethinking Schooling: A “Re-Introduction” is not an elective course. This course is offered to students admitted to the Pre-Education BEd Concurrent program. ED/EDUC 3760 Early & Family Literacy Is offered to teacher candidates enrolled in the Primary/Junior teaching level. TC’s in the Intermediate/Senior level should not enroll in the course.
Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive students FW 2015 Enrolment
Any Concurrent and Part Time Consecutive teacher candidates heading into ED 2 or 3 and were unable to attend the group advising sessions in February and March are required to book an individual advising appointment with an Education Advisor to go over course requirements and fill out the FW 2015-16 Practicum Enrolment form. Without the Practicum Enrolment form teacher candidates will not be enrolled in the FW 2015 Practicum Placement.
Reminder: Courses not available to Concurrent and PT Consecutive students
Education courses coded as ED/EDFE, ED/EDJI, ED/EDPJ, ED/EDPR and ED/XX 4000 and 4001 are scheduled for the FW 2015 Consecutive students only. As well, EDUC 3000, EDUC 3592, EDUC 3610 section A & B and EDUC 3600 section N & O are reserved for Consecutive BEd students.
Concurrent and Part-Consecutive students should refer to the advising packages given out at the winter/spring group advising sessions to view the course enrolment requirements. Concurrent Education Section Meetings for ED 2 and ED 3 TC's– Wednesday, September 9, 2015
Section meetings for Concurrent Education Teacher Candidates will take place on September 9th. TCs will meet in their cohorts with their Practicum Facilitators at locations in Winters, TEL, York Lanes and McLaughlin. Teacher Candidates should check the Practicum Information Management System https://practicum.edu.yorku.ca/gateway/Login using their Passport York username and ID to log in.

REGISTRATION IS FREE FOR TEACHER CANDIDATES
I/S Teaching Subjects There is potential for conflicts or repetition in choosing similar teaching subjects, such as ones that fall under the business, computer studies or economics, geography, environmental science and science category. Although you may select these combinations, we would like to advise you that you may have the same course director and same course outline for both teaching subject classes. Some of the above subjects (e.g. business studies), depending on numbers, may only be available through independent study courses. When selecting your two teaching subjects, candidates should note the academic requirements for each subject and the prerequisites for curriculum and instruction courses. For the intermediate/senior program a minimum of 24 credits (four full university courses) in the subject area must be taken in order to register in the teaching subject curriculum and instruction course. A candidate requires a minimum of 36 credits (six full university courses) in one teaching subject area and 24 credits (four full university courses) in the other area to graduate.
Ineligible to Continue Any BEd student who has an overall GPA less than C+ (5.00) in their undergraduate degree or receives a grade of less than C+ in any Education course or receives a F grade in practicum is ineligible to continue or graduate. To petition to be reinstated, students must submit an academic petition to 128 Winters College. Concurrent BEd students’ petitions will only be considered if their GPA in their undergraduate meets the minimum 5.00 requirement. To petition for retroactive withdrawal for an Education course or to repeat a failed practicum, the student should explain the failure, what went wrong and why this will not occur next time. If you have any supporting letters from your practicum mentor teacher or seminar leader, you should also include this with your academic petition. If there are any medical reasons, you should also have the Attending Physician's Statement completed. This form is part of the complete petitions package which can be found on the web site for the Registrar's Office http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/petitions/academic/.

Criminal Background Check
ALL Teacher Candidates are required to hold a valid Criminal Background Check prior to entering placement. This requirement is enforced by school boards who are safeguarding the children in their classrooms. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. NO valid Criminal Background Check means NO PLACEMENT.
Reminder about practicum placements: Practicum placement information will be posted mid-late August. To access the information, please log on to the Practicum System http://edu.yorku.ca/current-students/practicum/ using your Passport York username and password. Please do not call the practicum office to request this information. It is also important to note that changes to school enrollments and staffing that occur in August and early September may necessitate changes to fall placement location.

Religious Education: Teaching in Catholic Schools
Registration is now open
Intended to introduce pre-service teacher candidates to professional practice and to extend knowledge and skills in the delivery of Ontario Catholic curriculum, this course answers the question, "What do I need to know to begin teaching in Ontario Catholic Schools?" Critical to the implementation of this course is the modeling of a positive learning environment that reflects care, professional knowledge, ethical practice, leadership and ongoing learning.
Who Should Attend
Any undergrad teacher candidate in the final year of education studies and interested in preparing to teach in Catholic schools.
NOTE: This course is open only to York University Faculty of Education undergraduate students. This course is not equivalent to the Religious Education, Part 1 additional qualification.
