Individual Advising
The Faculty of Education, Office of Student Services offers individual advising three days a week -Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 4pm. To book an appointment visit http://edu.yorku.ca/current-students and select SharePoint. Log in using your Passport York username and password. Select Undergraduate / Academic Advising.
Faculty of Education offices closed from 12 noon to end of day – December 10th
All Faculty of Education offices will be closed on Thursday, December 10th from 12noon to end of day. They will resume normal office hours on Friday, December 11th.
Holiday Season university closure
York University will be closed for the Holiday Season from end of day, Wednesday, December 23, 2015 and will reopen on Monday, January 4, 2016. Some services will be available to students during the holiday. Information will be posted on the York U. Current Students website by mid December http://currentstudents.yorku.ca/
Name a Student BLOG
The Faculty of Education is looking for your help in naming a new student blog! Our goal is to create an online presence – for students by students – to represent their experiences as a part of the Faculty of Education!
Upper-level undergraduate and graduate students will blog about their studies, interests, and student life, but first we need a name! What shall we call the blog? Faculty of Education Undergraduate Teaching Award 2015
The Faculty of Education Undergraduate Teaching Award is awarded annually to a member of the Faculty of Education who has displayed substantial, significant and sustained excellence, commitment and enthusiasm to the multifaceted aspects of teaching and learning at the undergraduate level resulting in an enhanced quality of learning by York students. The nominee may be a full-time tenured faculty member, tenure-stream, contract faculty, or adjunct faculty, and must have taught at York for at least three years:
The award recognizes teaching excellence and innovations. Other elements which are taken into consideration include scholarly, professional and teaching development and initiatives in undergraduate program and curriculum development, as well as student learning experiences. The nominator may be any member of the Faculty of Education, including regular or adjunct faculty, secondees, graduate students, undergraduate students or staff. Graduate students may not nominate their current supervisor.

Creative Writing Competition – Submissions
Sponsored by the Office of the President, The President's Creative Writing Awards recognize excellence in the categories of short fiction, poetry, screenplay, and stage play. Consecutive TC’s – Enrolling in a Winter education elective course
All Consecutive BEd TC’s are required to enrol in a mandatory 3.0 credit education elective course for the Winter 2016 session. The elective course offering lists were sent to the TC’s by email in mid October. If you have not enrolled in an education elective course please contact Student Services at osp@edu.yorku.ca.

ED/EDUC 2400 Education as Communication section M (winter session)
Education as Communication will not be offered on Mondays in the winter session as was posted in the lecture schedule. It will be offered on Tuesday 8:30-11:30 during the winter session. If this course does not fit with your course schedule please email Teresa Boyle at TBoyle@edu.yorku.ca to request drop permission.
Religious Education: Teaching in Catholic Schools
Intended to introduce pre-service teacher candidates to professional practice and to extend knowledge and skills in the delivery of Ontario Catholic curriculum, this course answers the question, "What do I need to know to begin teaching in Ontario Catholic Schools?" Critical to the implementation of this course is the modeling of a positive learning environment that reflects care, professional knowledge, ethical practice, leadership and ongoing learning.
Who Should Attend
Any undergrad teacher candidate in the final year of education studies and interested in preparing to teach in Catholic schools.
NOTE: This course is open only to York University Faculty of Education undergraduate students. This course is not equivalent to the Religious Education, Part 1 additional qualification.
Course Format
- 36 hours in length; 10 hours online & 26 in-class
- Offered in the Fall and Winter sessions
- A Certificate of Completion is provided upon successful completion

2016 BEd Graduates – Apply to Ontario College of Teachers for your Membership registration
Teacher Candidates graduating in June 2016 will be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. Application information is available at: https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation we require the OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate. To apply for OCT membership visit: www.oct.ca, select Members and then Create an Account.
Recommendation to OCT
All concurrent, Technological Education and part time consecutive graduating students for June 2016 convocation should submit their Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2016 to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available through the Faculty of Education SharePoint Site at edu.yorku.ca. Log into Student SharePoint, select Undergraduate, then select OCT Registration Number Submission. This will require logging into Passport York.
