Mandatory Advising Sessions

All concurrent and part-time consecutive BEd teacher candidates currently in ED 2 and proceeding into ED3 next September are required to attend a group advising session.  TC’s don’t need to reserve a spot. Just come on the day/time that works with your schedule.

Along with information on FW 2016 enrolment we will have representatives from the Practicum Office, Graduate Education program and the  Professional Learning Programs (AQ's) come and speak with our TC's.

Held in McLaughlin College 157A and York Lanes 234.

The ED 2 sessions for Primary/Junior are schedule for

    • Thursday, February 18at 11:30 am York Lanes 234 (with JI) or
    • Thursday, February 18 at 1:00pm York Lanes 234 or
    • Friday, February 19 at 1:00pm MC 157A or

The ED2 sessions for Junior/Intermediate are schedule for

    • Thursday, February 18at 11:30 am York Lanes 234  (with PJ) or
    • Friday, February 19  at 2:30 am York Lanes 234

The ED2 sessions for Intermediate/Senior are scheduled for

    • Tuesday, February 16  at 2:30 pm MC 157A
    • Thursday, February 18  at 11:30 am MC 157A
    • Friday, February 19 at 2:30pm MC 157A

Glendon – BEd (French) –Friday, February 26, 2016 The BEd (French) advising session will occur at Glendon College.

The sessions are scheduled for:

    • ED2 Advising      10:45 am to 11:45 noon                               York Hall Rm A301

Practicum
All ED2 Teacher Candidates MUST log on to the Practicum Information Management System to select practicum preferences for the 2016-17 academic year.

The online form, which is also accessible through the practicum login on the main education homepage, will be available from Thursday February 12th to Thursday February 26th.  That's 2 full weeks to login and input the information needed.

The link is  https://practicum.edu.yorku.ca/gateway/Login.aspx  Please use your Passport York username and password to login.

For ED2 Teacher Candidates, returning from Stop out, you also need to complete the form for the 2016-2017 year as planning for placements begins before the current school year wraps up.  Look for more information on this in upcoming communications.

Consecutive BEd Teacher Candidates - Enrolment/Practicum Information FW 2016-17
Teacher Candidates in the Consecutive BEd program will receive information by email end of February regarding enrolment procedures and important dates for the FW 2016-17 session. TC’s will be required log on to the Practicum Information Management System the first week of March to select practicum preferences for the 2016-17 academic year.

Building Futures Workshops @ Room 102 Accolade East Building (ACE)

The Ministry of Education's Building Futures program will be hosting 2-days of workshops for York teacher candidates on February 16 (PJI) and February 17 (JIS). The Building Futures program began in 2004 with the purpose of establishing support and guidance to new teachers about to embark on their teaching careers by providing them with relevant tools and practical ministry resources.

Digital Game Development and Learning in the Classroom From K to PhD: Panel and Showcase
Co-Hosted by the Institute of Research for Digital Learning & the Faculty of Education

Date: Wednesday February 24th, 2016

Location: Kaneff Tower, Room 519 (5th floor)

A panel of academic and community experts share their strategies, findings, and approaches to incorporating digital game development into K-12 curriculum and post-secondary classrooms. The presentations will touch on a range of topics related to digital games and learning, including STEM education and “21st century skills”, representation of minorities in games culture and industries, DIY and maker spaces, digital storytelling and multi-literacies, community engaged scholarship, play based learning, and academic-community partnerships. Following the panel there will be a social and showcase with a small arcade of student made games to play.

AQs for Class of 2016 B.Ed. Graduates The Faculty of Education is offering the Graduating Class of 2016 the opportunity to complete an additional qualification in Spring 2016 tailored to the needs of new teachers entering the profession. Offered at York University Keele campus between Mon May 30 to Fri Jun 10 (8:30 – 4pm), teacher candidates can apply to one of two AQs:  Special Education Part 1 or English as a Second Language Part 1.  Registration opens January 25, 2016.  Apply by May 23, 2016.  For more information and to register visit: http://edu.yorku.ca/profdev/aqabq/aqs-for-new-grads/

June Convocation Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/preparing/apply. Deadline to apply is Sunday, February 28, 2016. The actual date has not been set for the Faculty of Education Keele campus convocation. Web site can be found at http://www.yorku.ca/mygraduation.

Recommendation to OCT All BEd graduating students for June 2016 convocation should submit their Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2016  to the Faculty of Education.

The online form is available through the Faculty of Education SharePoint Site at edu.yorku.ca. Log into Student SharePoint, select Undergraduate, then select OCT Registration Number Submission. This will require logging into Passport York.

In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate. To apply for OCT membership visit: www.oct.ca, select Members and then Create an Account.

Transcripts to OCT Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to make arrangements themselves to order all post-secondary transcripts to be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Your transcripts must indicate your Bachelor of Education degree has been conferred. This means your transcripts should not be sent until after the June convocation. The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification. For more information, visit http://www.oct.ca/become_a_teacher/?lang=en-CA.

Updating your contact information
Please remember if you change your residential address or phone number(s) you should update this information through York U. Online Service: My Student Records and select   Change My Profile at http://www.registrar.yorku.ca/index.php. Its’ also encouraged to add a contact person in case of emergency.
