Year Two – Mandatory Practicum Meeting
Tuesday, September 3, 2019
ALL Year 2 BEd students and Year 3 Ryerson BA/BEd  must attend the Program Start Practicum Meeting on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

HOW TO FIND WHAT GROUP YOU ARE WITH

  1. Check Practicum Information Management System (PIMS) for your EDPR 3000 and 4000 Practicum Partner (Facilitator). Please scroll down the page (all the way) to see your Practicum Facilitator.
  2. View the entire agenda on the MTRR under Current Updates: http://mtrr.blog.yorku.ca/yeartwo/   to see which room you will be attending your Practicum meeting.  A Practicum Facilitator is assigned to you and posted on PIMs but your school placement may still show “pending confirmation”.  Do not be concerned, schools closed for the summer; therefore, some school-based practicum placements are still pending.  If you do not see a Practicum Facilitators name, please email practicumoffice@edu.yorku.ca or call 416-736-5009.
  3. The information could change throughout the week, so it is the student's responsibility to keep checking, (including over the upcoming weekend), to see the most up to date information. Example, you may see the names of two Practicum Partners and meeting’s being held in different rooms.

Classes begin the week of September 2nd.    Visit the BEd Program Calendars ~ Year 2 http://edu.yorku.ca/current-students/undergraduate/program-calendars/

Year 2 BEd students  ~ Provincial Mathematics Test for teacher candidates
Email sent August 30, 2019 to Year 2 BEd students from Sarah Barrett, Associate Professor and Associate Dean, Academic Programs.

As you know, on August 21, 2019, the Government of Ontario established new regulations – through the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and the EQAO Acts – for examinations relating to proficiency in mathematics. Successful completion of the test will be required for qualification and registration with the OCT.

Information that we are aware of at this time:

  • The math proficiency requirement will apply to graduates who wish to register with the OCT after March 31, 2020
  • Examinations will be developed and marked by the EQAO
  • The test will have both a content section (based on the mathematics curriculum grades 3 to 11) and a pedagogy section (in a 70:30 ratio)
  • The EQAO is responsible for providing instructions about administration of the test (pending)
  • The test will be marked by the EQAO; the EQAO will provide the mark to the person who took it and provide the names of those who successfully completed the test to the Registrar of the OCT

The OCT encourages teacher candidates to check the College’s website for future updates.  The Faculty of Education at York University will be working on ways to support our students for their continued success and ensuring the Faculty remains a leader in education.

BA EDST Program requirement regulation changes
Over this past year there were course requirement regulation changes for the BA Educational Studies program.  Please ensure you visit the Academic Calendars at https://calendars.students.yorku.ca/

Criminal Background Checks for each year in the BEd and BA EDST 3999 6.0 and 4999 6.0
It is the responsibility of every student to have a valid original Criminal Background Check available for presentation at the host school and/or community placement, at any time. It is highly recommended that TCs obtain 2 original copies of their Criminal Background Check at the time of original application.  This allows surrender of the original to a school board, if required, while still ensuring that the TC has an original copy in their possession. More information visit: http://mtrr.blog.yorku.ca/criminal-background-checks/
