BEd students heading back to their undergraduate program FW 2021
The Faculty of Education, Office of Student Services will be requesting through the Registrars Office to post enrolment windows for BEd students returning to their undergraduate program for FW 2021.   Enrolment windows will be posted for Summer enrolment and Fall/Winter enrolment for their undergraduate programs.  The dates will be scheduled by the Registrars Office.

And, Concurrent BEd students who are returning to Yr 2  BEd for  FW 2021 will be given a summer enrolment window for both their undergraduate program and BEd if wishing to plan courses in both programs.

Planning summer 2021 Education Electives
All BEd and BA Educational Studies students continuing to FW 2021-22  will been given a summer enrollment window to enroll in courses. Please check your student record to see the first date for summer enrolment.

Mental Health & Wellness Student Initiative Fund
This fund aims to support innovative and inclusive student-led initiatives that promote a healthy, inclusive and supportive environment that fosters mental health and well-being among members of the York student community. The deadline for proposals is February 28, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Additional information including how to apply can be found here.

SPARK
Student Community & Leadership Development is hosting SPARK, Winter Leadership Summit on February 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. SPARK is designed to bolster the leadership capacity of students as they head into another academic term in the fall, or graduate from their studies in the spring. Interested students to register here.

2021  BEd Graduates  ~ Apply to the Ontario College of Teachers for your Membership registration
BEd students graduating in June 2021 will be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. There are several steps students will need to do to ensure there are no delays nominating BEd graduates after convocation.

  1. Review the OCT application information at  https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege
  2. Apply for OCT membership/registration: Visit: www.oct.ca select Members and then Create an Account. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the six-digit OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate.
  3. Submit the six-digit Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2021 to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available on the Faculty of Education website.
  4. Send Transcripts to OCT ~ Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need  to order all post-secondary transcripts  and  be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Please order your transcript while completing your OCT application, using the OUAC Transcript Request available at https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/oct/en_CA/user/login
  5. Recommendation to OCT - The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification.

June Convocation
Graduating BEd and BA students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. All students planned to graduate need to register for the ceremony.  The June 2021 ceremony will be held online/virtual.

Apply to graduate (degree audit review):   Only Concurrent BEd students and BA Educational Studies students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Website at   http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/preparing/apply  Deadline to apply is February 26, 2021.  Students in the Consecutive BEd model will be automatically reviewed for degree completion.

Please note, Concurrent BEd students may only see their Bachelor of Education record when requesting to graduate.  These students will also need to submit a request for degree audit of their undergraduate program.  The form to submit the request is https://registrar.yorku.ca/graduation/apply/forms

Advising packages for ED 2 (Semester 3 ad 4) 2021-22
The Students Services team will be working on the Yr 2  Advising/Enrollment packages for FW 2021.   Once the packages are complete they will be sent by email to all students returning and continuing in the BEd program this September.  Included in the package will be the course schedule, Monday - Friday class schedule, F/W ED elective choices, ED 2 Practicum meetings, reminder to reapply for Police Record Check/VSS and any important dates for FW 2021 academic year.  Plan to have the packages ready by mid April or earlier.

Mental Health and Wellness at York U .  Students  needing assistance or support  beyond their course work are encouraged to visit the resources available to them at YU.  http://mhw.info.yorku.ca/resources/resources-at-york/students/.

Through the Mental Health & Wellness Student Initiative, a total of $1000.00 is granted to each recipient of the fund.

Students in the BA Educational Studies program need to be mindful of the university's important dates - drop/add courses, refunds and tuition deadline.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)  Students with a diagnosed disability are encouraged to connect with York's Accessibility Services (SAS).  Their office  provides academic accommodation and support to students with disabilities in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s Policy on accessible education for students with disabilities and York University Senate Policy on Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities.

As well, students needing non Academic Counselling can contact Student Counselling and Development (SCD)     This unit helps York students to realize, develop and fulfill their personal potential in order to maximally benefit from their university experience and manage the challenges of university life. Students come to SCD because of a wide range of concerns including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, abuse, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, eating and body image as well as issues related to sexuality, short-term individual, couple, and group counselling, crisis intervention and consultations regarding students in distress/crisis and issues related to overall mental health.

Please remember if you change your residential address or phone number(s) you should update this information through the Registrar's Office website. Under My Student Records select Change My Profile. You are also encouraged to add a contact person in case of emergency.
