The Faculty of Education, Office of Student Services staff are available for walk  inquiries on campus and online advising support . We are in 128 Winters College, Office hours are (Monday - Thursday = 9:00am to 4:00pm and Fridays month of June, July and August 9:00am to 3:00pm).

Welcome first year BA students to the Faculty of Education/York U.

Bachelor of Arts, Educational Studies New Student Academic Orientation
Thursday, August 29th, 2024
New BA Educational Studies students can join us on August 29th from 1:00pm-3:00pm and learn more about the BA program, hear from faculty who plan the experiential education experiences for the program and meet other students.   Prior to the Academic Orientation there is a table fair from 12noon -1pm providing information on clubs and support services.  Visit: https://www.yorku.ca/orientation/#orientationdates2024  and register for theFaculty of Education, Bachelor of Arts Educational Studies Academic Orientation.

YEAR 2 BEd Teacher Candidates will have Practicum Meetings and a presentation from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).

  • Practicum Meetings: Tuesday, September 3rd (in person) and Monday, September 9th (virtual meeting).   Your Practicum Facilitator will email the time and location for the Sept 3rd practicum meeting by August 30, 2024. Please check spam/junk email folders.
  • Ontario College of Teachers: Tuesday, September 10th. This is a virtual information session for morning  or afternoon.  The schedule will be posted on eClass.

Year 2 BEd P/J and JI students (ED/EDPJ/JI 3100 and 3000)
Primary/Junior and Junior/Intermediate students will see on the BEd Program Calendar https://www.yorku.ca/edu/students/undergraduate-programs/bed-program-calendars/ ED/EDPJ 3000/ 3100 for Primary/Junior and  ED/EDJI 3000 /3100 for Junior/Intermediate students.  These courses are six weeks and posted as WA = starts January first six weeks in winter and WB = starts mid-February last six weeks   These courses won’t plot to the Undergraduate Students Timetable schedule Monday to Friday because the session codes are not familiar to YU system.  But you can see the time, day and session code WA and WB in writing under Important Notes in Search Course Timetables https://w2prod.sis.yorku.ca/Apps/WebObjects/cdm

Welcome BEd Teacher Candidates to Year 1

The Office of Students Serves sent out a detailed email on Monday, August 19th to all year 1 BEd students sharing the first week of classes and academic orientation.  Please check your email and your junk/spam for the information.

How to figure out the week of August 26th with your course schedule.

  • Monday, Aug 26th Orientation – All day
      • Morning – Orientation being held in Accolade Building (East and West) see attached form sent by email
      • Afternoon - Teacher Federations Information Sessions (see attached form sent by email)
  • Tuesday, August 27th EDPR 2000 In School Practicum Facilitator meetings being held in person.  Practicum Supervisors will be sending out emails to their student groups by Friday, August 23rd to share the time and room location.
  • Wednesday, August 28th to Friday, August 30th EDPR 1000 Studies in Communities and Their Schools classes/meetings will be held half day and on campus.  See at the end of this email the location and time for each section.

How to find your EDPR 1000 Studies in Communities and Their Schools meetings/classes with the Course Directors.

  1. EDPR1000 does not plot on the timetable but is noted under Important Notes. Visit the York Courses page and choose Plot My Timetable  to find your EDPR 1000 section. Select the Fall/Winter 2024-2025 Undergraduate Students 
  2. Look for the room location and time posted in Notes/Additional Fees found through Search Current Courses by Subject and search for EDPR 1000 https://w2prod.sis.yorku.ca/Apps/WebObjects/cdm.woa/11/wo/ETrCQTSfm6sMV5keyMcAXw/0.3.4.1.1
    • Students enrolled in EDPR1000 who have submitted their community practicum preferences in round one will be able to view their confirmed Community Practicum placement (beginning mid-day August 21st, 2024).
    • Students enrolled in EDPR1000 who have not yet submitted their community practicum preferences can search Community Practicum options and submit five placement preferences beginning mid-day August 21st- September 11th, 2024.
    • Please refer to the home page of the Community Practicum Placement System.
  • Tuesday, September 3rd Ontario College of Teacher Presentation (Virtual meeting) morning or afternoon.

  • Visit BEd Google Calendars  https://www.yorku.ca/edu/students/undergraduate-programs/bed-program-calendars/  Please note you will just see the course sections but not the rooms courses are held in.
  • Log into eClass https://eclass.yorku.ca/ and look at Course Announcements and what instructors have/or will be posting. Students can turn on notifications for the course announcements that will go directly to emails. Please check the eClass Course Announcements regularly to ensure you have all recent updates.
  • Check student course schedule   Visit https://registrar.yorku.ca and then select "Plot My Timetable" under Courses & Enrolment.
  • In School Placement: Log into School Placement (PIMS) using your Passport York credentials https://practicum.edu.yorku.ca/gateway/Login.aspx and select View Profile and access Study Level 1 - EDPR XXXX to see Practicum Facilitator.

Awards for Undergraduate Students

Awards and bursaries are available to Faculty of Education students to assist with the cost of university tuition. If you meet the criteria of academic excellence and financial need, you are encouraged to apply.

BEd Graduates ~ Apply to the Ontario College of Teachers for your Membership registration
BEd students completing courses over the summer or from the spring session should be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. There are several steps students will need to do to ensure there are no delays nominating BEd graduates after convocation. Membership registration should be completed as soon as possible.

  • Review the OCT application information at  https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege
  • Apply for OCT membership/registration: Visit: oct.caselect Membersand then Create an Account. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the six-digit OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate.
  1. Submit the six-digit Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number ASAP to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available on the Faculty of Education website.
  2. Send Transcripts to OCT~ Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to order all post-secondary transcripts  and  be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Please order your transcript while completing your OCT application, using the OUAC Transcript Request available at https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/oct/en_CA/user/login
  3. Recommendation to OCT- The Faculty of Education will send your recommendation to OCT following program completed recorded on the student record.  Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)  Students with a diagnosed disability are encouraged to connect with York's Accessibility Services (SAS).  Their office  provides academic accommodation and support to students with disabilities in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s Policy on accessible education for students with disabilities and York University Senate Policy on Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities.

As well, students needing non Academic Counselling can contact Student Counselling and Development (SCD)     This unit helps York students to realize, develop and fulfill their personal potential in order to maximally benefit from their university experience and manage the challenges of university life. Students come to SCD because of a wide range of concerns including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, abuse, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, eating and body image as well as issues related to sexuality, short-term individual, couple, and group counselling, crisis intervention and consultations regarding students in distress/crisis and issues related to overall mental health.

Religious Education: Teaching in Catholic Schools - Who Should Attend
Any undergrad BEd student in the final year (yr 2 )o f BEd and interested in preparing to teach in Catholic schools.  NOTE: This course is open only to York University Faculty of Education undergraduate students. This course is not equivalent to the Religious Education, Part 1 additional qualification.
