ED2/ED3 Practicum Placements
The Faculty of Education’s Practicum Office is in the process of organizing placements for the new academic year. If you are studying ED2 or ED3 at Keele campus in the Fall/Winter 2011-2012 academic session and you hve not yet submitted your practicum information, you should telephone the Practicum Office as soon as possible at (416) 736-5009 or email practicumoffice@edu.yorku.ca. Teacher candidates in the BEd (French) program option should contact Stefanie Muhling. Please note that teacher candidates at Keele campus should select either Wednesday or Thursday as their practicum office. All BEd (French) teacher candidates should reserve Wednesday as their practicum day. Teacher Candidates at Keele campus should also contact the Practicum Office if they require a change to their teaching day. Teacher candidates for the BEd (French) should contact Stefanie Muhling if they have concerns about Wednesday as the practicum day. Placements will be determined based on the number of teacher candidates a particular school has agreed to host next year, the division or teachable of the mentor teachers that have agreed to host teacher candidates as well as the day of the week teacher candidates have requested for their placements. All ED2 and ED3 teacher candidates will be notified by postage mail by mid-August of their practicum placements. To ensure receipt of all correspondence, teacher candidates should update their summer mailing addresses by clicking on “Update my personal information” on the current students web site at http://www.yorku.ca/yorkweb/cs.htm. Teacher candidates cannot arrange their own placements. For the expectations for practicum placements, visit http://edu.yorku.ca/bed/practicum.html.

Valid Police Record Checks
All Teacher Candidates involved in a practicum placement in Ontario schools are required to complete a Police Record Check which includes Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to having direct contact with students. Without a satisfactory Police Record, you will not be allowed to participate in practicum assignments. You should begin the process immediately since processing times can vary and may take up to 6-8 weeks during times of high volume. If you live in Toronto, the appropriate Toronto Police Services form must be obtained, completed, verified and signed by York University personnel at the Practicum Office, 108 Winters College. Because the Toronto Police Services requires a signature from an authorized York University representative, it is necessary for students to come to Keele campus to obtain the signature. Students only need to complete the name and address portion with driver’s license, if possible. The reason for the request is “Volunteer”. They do not fill out any of the information for the “Agency Contact Person”. After the form is signed by the student and an authorized York University representative, the student needs to take their form to 40 College Street. If you live in York Region, the new YRP form will no longer require the signature of an agency representative. Employees and student volunteers will be able to download the form from the York Region Police website http://www.yrp.ca/community-policing/how-do-i/background-check.aspx and complete it, or obtain a form and complete it when they attend Customer Service locations. For more information you can call 1-866-876-5423 ext. 6759. If you live in Barrie, obtain a criminal record search that meets the conditions outlined by presenting a completed “Consent for a Criminal Record Check for a Sexual Offence for which a pardon has been granted or issued form”. Barrie Police Service can be contacted at 705-725-7025. If you live in Durham Region, information on Criminal Information Requests can be found at Durham Regional Police website at www.drps.ca. Durham Regional Police can be contacted at 905-579-1520 X 4104. If you live in Peel Region, obtain, complete, and submit a ‘Form A, Vulnerable Sector Police Records Search’ sheet directly from Peel Police Headquarters, 7750 Hurontario St., Brampton. Peel Regional Police can be contacted at 905-453-2121, ext. 4390. You are required by the Peel District School Board (Public) for your original copy to Lisa Cruickshank, Employee Relations Officer, Criminal Record Check, at 5650 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ON. Please note that this applied only to the Peel District School Board and not the Dufferin-Peel Board (Catholic). If your students require multiple originals of their CRCs, they should request these at the time of submitting their application at the Police Services. If you require additional information regarding our CRC policy, please contact Lisa Cruickshank at 905 890 1010 ext 2408 or at lisa.cruickshank@peelsb.com.

Practicum Reports
Practicum reports for Full-Time Consecutive teacher candidates are not to be faxed/sent to the Practicum Office. It is the responsibility of the teacher candidate to get a copy of the report from the mentor teacher (York University is no longer keeping them on file). Reports should not be housed at a consecutive site for any longer than this school year.
