Congratulations to Rabia Sajun, one of our Concurrent BEd teacher candidates in the Summer Science option for winning York’s President for a Day contest. Field Trip Waiver Forms
Teacher candidates must sign a field trip waiver form if they are attending an overnight field trip with their classes. The field trip waiver form can be found in SharePoint. Makeup Group Advising Sessions
Any Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates who were unable to attend any of the group advising sessions in February should attend a make up advising session in March. On Wednesday, March 14 in MC 157A/B from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm there will be a make up session for ED1 teacher candidates at all certification levels and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm there will be a make up session for ED2 teacher candidates at all certification levels. Also on Thursday, March 15, in York Lanes room 234 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm another session will be available for all ED1 teacher candidates and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm another session will be for all Ed2 teacher candidates. A make up session for all teacher candidates in the BEd (French) program option will be available at Glendon on Wednesday, March 14, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The room location is to be announced. Winter Term Sessional Dates
For Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive teacher candidates, please make note that March 9 is the last date to drop courses without receiving a grade on your transcript. As well, the final date for Tuesday classes is March 27. Wednesday classes end March 28. Thursday classes end March 29. Friday classes end March 30. The final Monday class is April 2. Summer Enrolment
The summer lecture schedule is now available online at the university’s Current Students web site http://www.yorku.ca/yorkweb/cs.htm, click on “Course Timetables”. Not all Education electives will appear in the university’s summer lecture schedule because of unique term dates. Please consult your advising package distributed at the February group advising sessions for further information.

Summer Education Elective Waitlist
Priority is given to teacher candidates going into their ED3 year, who need the credits to graduate. First priority on the waitlist is granted to ED2 students going into ED3 who have zero credits towards their elective requirement. Next we consider ED2 students going into ED3 who have 3 credits and then we consider students going into ED3 with 6 credits. This means, that your priority on the waitlist will drop as you are able to successfully enrol in Education electives. For example, if you are going into ED3 but already are enrolled in two electives and you wish to enrol in a third course, you need to understand that we would want to accommodate ED2 teacher candidates going into ED3 with zero or three credits towards their elective requirement over you who has 6 credits. Deaf-and-Hard-of-Hearing (DHH) Teacher Education
The Faculty’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education post-baccalaureate program for BEd graduates is the only one of its kind in Ontario. Currently, for eligible Ontario candidates, no tuition fees are charged for the program. The program is offered on a full-time or part-time basis and is available partially online. The application deadline for both the full-time and part time programs for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Education program is March 15. The program requires all candidates to have successfully completed a BEd degree, to be a member without conditions or limitations in the Ontario College of Teachers, and to have successfully completed two American Sign Language (ASL) courses. Documentation of successful completion of these requirements may be included in the application package. For those who need additional time to complete program requirements, August 15 is the final day for requirement documentation. ASL courses are available through Canadian Hearing Societies, the Bob Rumball Center in Toronto and many community colleges and universities. For information, visit http://edu.yorku.ca/deafed.

June Convocation
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Web site. If any Full-Time or Part-Time Consecutive BEd students have already completed the online application, the information will be accepted; however, the Faculty of Education will mount the application to graduate for every consecutive student so it is not necessary for them to complete the application. The Faculty of Education convocation ceremonies will occur on June 15 at 10:30 am (full-time consecutive) and 3:30 pm (Deaf Education, part-time consecutive and concurrent BEd). The convocation Web site can be found at http://www.yorku.ca/mygraduation.

Transcripts to OCT
Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to make arrangements themselves to order all post-secondary transcripts to be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Your transcripts must indicate your Bachelor of Education degree has been conferred. This means your transcripts should not be sent until after the June convocation. The Faculty of Education will automatically send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. Please submit your OCT registration number via an online form (Passport York protected). The link to the form is available on SharePoint. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification. International Education
The new spring session of “Preparing to Teach Internationally”, a professional development non-credit course, is now open for registration. This course is available to university students inside and outside the Faculty of Education (York and non-York students), as well as teachers and principals. This will not satisfy the Education elective requirement for the Concurrent and Part-Time Consecutive BEd. The course is taught on April 28, May 5, May 12, May 26 and June 2 (five-hour classes) on York’s Keele campus. The deadline to register is March 31, 2012. Also available is a new professional development program "Education, Culture and Teaching in China", which will be held in four cities in Jiangsu Province, PR China. Activities include guest speakers, short teaching experiences in two cities, tours of schools and post-secondary institutioins, reflective assignments and lesson planning, and cultural sites. Whether participants are planning to teach in Canada or in China, this program will allow them to experience and think about education in a different context. It will also help them to understand the learning needs and expectations of students and parents who are from China. Participants who complete this program will be awarded with a professional development certificate from the Faculty of Education at the end of the program. UIT Announcement
In order to synchronize all passwords for York computer resources, York University students should reset their Passport York password using Manage My Services at http://mms.yorku.ca. This, in turn, will allow the Passport York login to be used for access to all Passport York services, including workstation, labs and library computer logins.
