UPDATE - MARCH 18, 2020
As of March 13, 2020 the university has moved in class courses to online for all York U. students.  Information is available at currentstudents.yorku.ca and select Visit the Novel Coronavirus (COVID -19)  website for the latest information and updates for York U. students, faculty and staff.   The campus will be closed to all non essential services end of day March 19th.

Faculty of Education Office of Student Services  team ~ available  
The Office of Students Services teams will be available during regular office hours (10-4)  to current and future students through email, phone and/or Zoom.   Please email the Office of Students Services with your request or questions at osp@edu.yorku.ca.  Please provide your name, York student number (if applicable) along with your phone number.     Please give us 48 hours (during business days) to respond.

During this time all booked advising appointments - Tuesday and Thursdays will be done by phone.    An Education advisor will be emailing you 24hrs before your appointment with advising plans.

2020  BEd Graduates  ~ Apply to the Ontario College of Teachers for your Membership registration
BEd students graduating in June 2020 will be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. There are several steps students will need to do to ensure there are no delays nominating BEd graduates after convocation. Membership registration should be completed no later then June 1, 2020.

Students who are pursing the BEd program through the Waaban Indigenous Education program or Ryerson BA/BEd and completing the program in July should begin their membership registration no later then mid-June.

IMPORTANT ordering transcript to OCT:  Students are encouraged to order their York U. transcript through OUAC as the transcript is sent electronically versus a paper transcript.  See step 4 for more information.

  1. Review the OCT application information at: https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege
  2. Apply for OCT membership/registration: visit: www.oct.ca select Members and then Create an Account. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the six-digit OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate.
  3. Submit the six-digit Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2020 to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available on the Faculty of Education website. Select Current StudentsUndergraduateConvocation then select OCT Registration Number. This will require logging into Passport York.
  4. Send Transcripts to OCT ~ Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to decide themselves to order all post-secondary transcripts to be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Your transcripts must indicate your Bachelor of Education degree has been conferred. This means your transcripts should not be sent until after the June convocation. It’s recommended to order the transcript through OUAC as they send it electronically to OCT vs paper https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/oct/en_CA/user/login
  5. Recommendation to OCT - The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following convocation. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification.

June Convocation
Graduating BEd students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. Only Concurrent BEd students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Website at  http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/preparing/apply  Deadline to apply was  February 28, 2020

BEd Students heading into ED 2 FW 2020-21 ~   Select your Practicum Placement Location/Zone.
Students will log on to the Practicum Information Management System to select practicum preferences for the 2020-21 academic year. The online form will be available March 4 to April 13, 2020.  Students that do not submit a request for practicum for 2020-21, will not have a school placement come September.  When student’s login to PIMs, they should click on Practicum Placement Preference and the window will open to make the request.  Students that do not have the option “Practicum Placement Preferences” should email practicumoffice@edu.yorku.ca.

Summer enrollment windows Summer  2020
All BEd and BA Educational Studies students continuing to FW 2020-21  have been given a summer enrollment window to enroll in courses. Please check you student record to see the first date for summer enrolment.   Concurrent BEd students who have just completed ED 1 and are heading back to their undergraduate program for FW 2020 will have a summer enrollment for both their undergraduate and BEd program.

Planning summer 2020 Education Electives
UPDATE:  March 18, 2020 - Most of the Ed electives being taught online are already full.  Over the next few weeks the Associate Deans Office will be discussing if the courses planned for In person or  Blended can also be delivered  online.  Information will be provided in the April Student Services Newsletter.

The Faculty of Education offers a few education summer electives for the students in the BEd to enrol in.  In May and June the following courses are being offered.  The courses are taught online, blended  or lecture.  We ask students enrol in one elective only. Concurrent BEd students should not enrol in an ED elective for their undergraduate program)

Undergraduate Teaching Award nominations
The Undergraduate Teaching Award is awarded to a member of the Faculty of Education who has displayed substantial, significant and sustained excellence, commitment and enthusiasm to the multifaceted aspects of teaching and learning. The nominee may be a full-time tenured faculty member, tenure-stream, contract faculty, seconded, or adjunct faculty, and must have taught at York for at least one year. Advising packages for ED 2 (Semester 3 ad 4) 2020-21
The Students Services team will be working on the Yr 2   Advising/Enrollment packages for FW 2020.   Once the packages are complete they will be sent by email to all students returning and continuing in the BEd program this September.  Included in the package will be the course schedule, Monday - Friday class schedule, F/W ED elective choices, ED 2 Practicum meetings, reminder to reapply for Police Record Check/VSS and any important dates for FW 2020 academic year.  Plan to have the packages ready by mid May or earlier.

Professional Development for EDST 3999 6.0 
Experience, Inquire, Contribute I (EIC): Systematic Observation in Context
UPDATE: March 18_20.  The Faculty of Education is working with YU Career Services to try and plan an online session via Moodle.  More information will be sent to students heading into Yr 3 BA EDST and enrolling in EDST 3999 6.0.  
BA Educational Studies students who will be heading into Year  3 for FW 2020-21 will be required to attend one of the sessions on Professional Development to support the course/community practicum of EDST 3999 6.0 .   Sessions will be held in mid to late  April. Students need to attend one of the planned sessions.  The sessions are approx. 2.5 hours.   More information will be sent by email to the BA EDST students in March 2020.

BA Educational Studies planning FW 2020-21 enrolment
Faculty of Education, BA Educational Studies students can use the The Degree Progress Report (DPR) that helps  track their progress towards completing their  BA EDST  program requirements at York. Using the  DPR students will  see a clear, detailed list of their completed or in-progress courses and a status report  of their  progress towards satisfying all the program requirements. Students can view the Degree Progress Report, learn how to use it and review Frequently Asked Questions online at http://myacademicrecord.students.yorku.ca/degree-progress-report

ED/EDST 3999 Experiential Education: Students should plan to enroll in ED/EDST 3999 6.0 Experience, Inquire and Contribute (EIC) after completing a minimum 54.00 credits. Students will have two Experiential Education placements (yr. 3 and yr. 4).  The EIC offers learning placements within the community or in related organizations as part of the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies program. The placements are workplace-based learning to put theory to practice in the field of learning and education. As a student of our Educational Studies program, you’ll develop workplace-specific skills and enhance your professional networks – all while completing your degree.

Reminder: Good Housekeeping
Please note that classroom space is shared, and we want to remind all students/faculty if eating in the classrooms to please remove garbage and put it in the appropriate receptacles in the hallways.  By doing our part, we will help to keep our classrooms clean and in a professional state.
