Faculty of Education Office of Student Services team ~ available  
The Office of Students Services teams is available during regular office hours (Monday - Thursday 10-4 and Fridays 10-3) to current and future students through email, phone and/or Zoom.   Please email the Office of Students Services with your request or questions at osp@edu.yorku.ca.  Please provide your name, York student number (if applicable) along with your phone number.   Please give us 48 hours (during business days) to respond.

During this time all booked advising appointments - Tuesday and Thursdays will be done by phone or Zoom.    A Faculty of Education Advisor will be emailing you a day before your appointment with advising plans.

Planning for Fall 2020 BEd and BA program
As the university continues to face to face classes, most courses will be offered online/remotely.  The Faculty of Education courses will be offered remotely in the fall, and  continuing to work on preparing and developing these, to ensure students will have a great experience.   The faculty is working with the various partners in the community, school boards and other places to adapt those experiential aspects of the BEd and BA  program to the current context. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Police Record Check Toronto residents
Teacher Candidates who have a permanent residence in Toronto ONLY. (Postal Code beginning with M). Toronto Police Services offices are closed due to Covid-19, you must submit your application by mail. Toronto Police Services provides a discount on the fee for students/ volunteers. To qualify for the discount, you must complete a form (see sample form only at https://www.torontopolice.on.ca/background-checks/docs/consent_to_disclosure_en.pdf). This form must be provided and signed by our faculty. TCs living outside of Toronto must secure a Criminal Background Check from their local police service. Online services are available from most police services, please check the police services website for your area.

BEd students ED 2 yr. (Semester 3 and 4) Advising packages 2020-21
The Students Services team has been working on the Yr 2  BEd Advising/Enrollment packages for FW 2020.   We hope to have them ready and sent to students by June 12th.   The information will be sent by email to all students returning and continuing in the BEd program this September.  Included in the package will be the course schedule, Monday - Friday class schedule, F/W ED elective choices, ED 2 Practicum meetings, reminder to re apply for Police Record Check/VSS and any important dates for FW 2020 academic year.  Please note; Enrolment windows will be planned for June 30th  vs the earlier date in the May newsletter of June 15th.   The university has arranged all continuing York students will enrol in courses no earlier then June 29th.  Student will only be enrolling in ED/EDPR 3000, ED/EDPR 4000 (In school Practicums) and education electives.

BA Educational Studies students
ED/EDST 3999 Experiential Education: Students should plan to enroll in ED/EDST 3999 6.0 Experience, Inquire and Contribute (EIC) after completing a minimum 54.00 credits. Students will have two Experiential Education placements (yr. 3 and yr. 4).  The EIC offers learning placements within the community or in related organizations as part of the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies program. The placements are workplace-based learning to put theory to practice in the field of learning and education. As a student of our Educational Studies program, you’ll develop workplace-specific skills and enhance your professional networks – all while completing your degree.

ED/EDST 3999 is a required course (seminars and community placement) for the program. Once students have enrolled in the course (Enrolment window date on their students record) the Faculty of Education, Practicum Office will email students with steps to select a Community Placement. Note, that EDST 3999 is a prerequisite for 4999.

Plans for ED/EDPR 4999 6.0 FW 2020
Students who have successfully completed ED/EDST 3999 in the BA Educational Studies program and moving into the last Inquire, Experience and Contribute course/placement ED/EDST 4999 6.00 will be participating in the Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom - C4.  This is an initiative that brings York students together in multi-disciplinary teams to work on year-long capstone projects pitched by non-profits, starts-ups, and business who want to make a real social change.  Students may have received an email from Professor Celia Popovic about the course/placement plans already.  More information will be shared in July, after enrolment in the course.

BA Educational Studies planning FW 2020-21 DPR
BA students can check out how they're doing with BA course/degree requirement. BA Educational Studies students can use the Degree Progress Report (DPR) that helps track their progress towards completing their BA EDST program requirements at York. Using the DPR students will see a clear, detailed list of their completed or in-progress courses and a status report of their progress towards satisfying all the program requirements. Students can view the Degree Progress Report, learn how to use it and review Frequently Asked Questions online at http://myacademicrecord.students.yorku.ca/degree-progress-report

Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program 2020-21
Deadline:  August 31, 2020
BEd students in an Ontario consecutive and concurrent teacher education program and who will graduate in 2021 are eligible to apply for the 2020-21 scholarships.

Three Awards:
1. Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship for excellence in Teacher Education
2. Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship
3. Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship
