Faculty of Education Office of Student Services team ~ moving to DB 3150 
On Monday, February 7, 2022 the staff will be returning to the campus for in person and online advising support and will be located in Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building (DB), 3rd floor room 3150.  Office hours are (Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm).  We continue to welcome questions from students to email us at osp@edu.yorku.ca.  Please provide your name, York student number (if applicable) along with your phone number.   Please give us 3 days  (during business days) to respond.

York resumes a gradual return to campus:

  • Starting Monday, Feb. 7:
    • All 1000-level courses
    • All graduate courses
  • Starting on Monday, Feb. 14:
    • All remaining courses
    • Reading Week, set for Feb. 19 to 25, remains unchanged.

Here are some important items to keep in mind this week.

1 Start Strong Start of Class webpage. To help prepare for the Winter term, find information about resources, including academic success, learning skills, financial support, mental health and wellness, and career or community support.
2 Start Strong Student Services webpage. This handy reference guide helps you navigate online and in-person services and supports. Check back often, as the information continues to be updated.
3 Start Strong Campus Access webpage. Learn about the health and safety steps you need to take before coming to campus and how you can help keep the York community safe. All students coming to campus are encouraged to watch the page’s videos.

Faculty of Education BA and BEd courses will be offered  in a number of buildings.  Look at your course schedule to see where your courses are being offered and check the map for location.  Classroom location could change before first day back to campus classes, so check regularly for any updates.  BA students will also be in courses that are not offered by Faculty of Education, and those classes can be in other locations on the campus.

Announcement - OCT Temporary Certificate
The Faculty of Education will be sending out a E communication to Year 2 BEd students soon and the information has been posted to eClass.  Students who have successfully completed the In School practicum "ED/EDPR 3000" and currently enrolled in ED/EDPR 4000 are eligible to submit their request for OCT Temporary Certificate.  Please visit OCT for information on applying for membership https://www.oct.ca/becoming-a-teacher/requirements/temporary-certificate

2022  BEd Graduates  ~ Apply to the Ontario College of Teachers for your Membership registration
BEd students graduating in June 2022 will be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. There are several steps students will need to do to ensure there are no delays nominating BEd graduates.

  1. Review the OCT application information at  https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege
  2. Apply for OCT membership/registration: Visit: www.oct.ca select Members and then Create an Account. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the six-digit OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate.
  3. Submit the six-digit Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2022 to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available on the Faculty of Education website.
  4. Apply to graduate (degree audit review):   Only Concurrent BEd students students need to apply to graduate online using the convocation Website at  http://www.yorku.ca/mygrad/preparing/apply  Deadline to apply is March 1, 2022.  Please note, Concurrent BEd students may only see their Bachelor of Education record when requesting to graduate.  These students will also need to submit a request for degree audit of their undergraduate program.  The form to submit the request is https://registrar.yorku.ca/graduation/apply/forms . Students in the Consecutive BEd model will be automatically reviewed for degree completion.
  5. Send Transcripts to OCT ~ Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need  to order all post-secondary transcripts and  be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Please order your transcript while completing your OCT application, using the OUAC Transcript Request available at https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/oct/en_CA/user/login
  6. Recommendation to OCT - The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following degree(s) completion. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification.

June Convocation
Graduating BEd and BA students should view the information on the university’s convocation Web site for details regarding the ceremony and diploma services. All students planned to graduate need to register for the ceremony. Spring convocation dates and registering for the ceremony will be posted here: https://www.yorku.ca/convocation/

Concurrent BEd students who are returning to Yr 2  BEd for  FW 2022 will be given a summer enrolment window for both their undergraduate program and BEd if wishing to plan courses in both programs.

Planning summer 2022 course for BA and BEd students
All BEd and BA Educational Studies students continuing to FW 2022-23  will been given a summer enrollment window to enroll in courses. Please check your student record to see the first date for summer enrolment.

Education Electives for BEd students
The Faculty of Education are offering education summer electives for students in the BEd. We encourage students heading into Year 2 (Consecutive BEd students and Concurrent BEd returning) for FW 2022 to plan an education elective in the summer. More information on what electives will be offered, will be shared in the March newsletter.

Bachelor of Education course requirements Students needing to double check the course requirements for the BEd program should visit YU Academic Calendar's.  Courses and Practicum requirements for all the teaching panels are posted. Visit  https://calendars.students.yorku.ca/2021-2022/programs/ED/education and select Faculty Rules and then Course Requirements and Specializations.

Advising packages for BEd yr  2 (Semester 3 ad 4) 2022-23
The Students Services team will be working on the Yr 2  Advising/Enrollment packages for FW 2022.   Once the packages are complete they will be sent by email to all students returning and continuing in the BEd program this September.  Included in the package will be the course schedule, Monday - Friday class schedule, F/W ED elective choices, ED 2 Practicum meetings, reminder to reapply for Police Record Check/VSS and any important dates for FW 2022 academic year.  Plan to have the packages ready by mid May or earlier.
