IMPORTANT Bachelor of Education (BEd) course requirements
Students needing to double check the course requirements for the BEd program should visit YU Academic Calendar's. Courses and Practicum requirements for all the teaching panels are posted. Visit https://calendars.students.yorku.ca/academic-calendar#/programs

Grade requirements for the Bachelor of Education

Students will be ineligible to continue in the Bachelor of Education teaching certification degree / program if they receive less than a grade of C+ in any course taken for education credit.
In the Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, students complete both a community-based practicum placement and three school-based practicum placements. School placements are supervised by an Ontario Certified Teacher. Students are required to complete all practicum days successfully in order to complete their degree programs. Further details on the practicum experience can be found online.

REMINDRER June 2023 graduation - BEd students https://www.yorku.ca/convocation/ BEd students graduating in June 2023 will be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. If you have not shared your OCT number with the Faculty please do so and we will send out the nomination after June 16^th.

Review the OCT application information at https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege
Apply for OCT membership/registration: Visit: oct.ca select Members and then Create an Account. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the six-digit OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate.
Submit the six-digit Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by June 1, 2023 to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available on the Faculty of Education website.
Send Transcripts to OCT~ Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need to order all post-secondary transcripts and be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. The Faculty of Education cannot order students transcripts, it’s the responsibility of students. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent after degree completion. Please order your transcript while completing your OCT application, using the OUAC Transcript Request available at https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/oct/en_CA/user/login
Recommendation to OCT- The Faculty of Education will only send your recommendation to OCT following degree(s) completion. Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification.

The Toronto Metropolitan University ECS BA/PJ BEd students completing the BEd program requirements end of July and requested the Temporary Certificate will have the final nomination sent in August. Please follow the steps above (Step 3 by August 1, 2023) and if submitting your OCT registration number for first time.

TOWN HALL meeting/session for BEd students moving into Year 2 FW 2023-24
The Undergraduate Program Office held two Town Hall meetings for students in the BEd program and who will be enrolled in Year 2 this F/W 2023-24 session. Advising packages for ED 2 (Semester 3 and 4) 2023-24
The Student Services team emailed the Year 2 Advising/Enrollment packages on May 26, 2023 students moving into Year 2 BEd. The packages are posted here: https://www.yorku.ca/edu/students/undergraduate-programs/bed-program-calendars/ Please note, the packages sent via email shared three days of Practicum placement in Fall 2023. This has now been changed to 2 days a week.

Included in the packages are the course schedules, a reminder to reapply for Police Record Check/VSS, and any important dates for the FW 2023 academic year. The date to enroll in EDPR 3000 and EDPR 4000 June 19^th, 2023. The EDUC electives list will be posted in the advising packages before June 19^th.

The Faculty of Education Students Services team will enroll the BEd students in the required courses. Students must enroll in the EDPR courses for the services team to complete the remaining enrolment of courses. Our goal is complete final enrolment by mid-July.

Bachelor of Education Teaching Certification It's important to remember that the BEd is a full-time academic program that has a very full schedule, and the degree is accredited as an in-person program; with the professional nature of the program and expectations from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), it is also expected that students attend classes together in order to enrich their learning experiences and to prepare them to enter the teaching profession.

Enrolment plans F/W 2023- 24

BEd students in the Waaban Indigenous Teaching program and TMU BEd students. Plans to enroll students in the BE courses for the F/W 2024-24 semesters will be looked after end of June. Jane Larsson is your advisor and will look after the enrolment. ________________________________________________________________

BA Educational Studies students moving into level 3 and 4
The Office of Students Services will be providing two virtual information sessions for BA students moving into level 3 and 4 (level 3 = 54 to 82 credits and level 4 = 84 credits or more completed by end of summer) this September. We will discuss courses planned for FW 2023-24, program requirements, how to review your Degree Progress Report, and the EDST 3999 and EDST 4999 - Experience, Inquire and Contribute (EIC) options. The EIC offers learning placements within the community or in related organizations as part of the Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies program. The placements are workplace-based learning to put theory to practice in the field of learning and education. If your enrolment window date to select courses is prior to the information sessions please note, the time and day of the week of the ED/EDST 3999 and ED/EDST 4999 sections are already planned.

Information sessions will be held via Zoom on the following dates/times:

ED/EDST 4999 6.00 Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00pm (EDST 3999 is a pre-req to enroll in EDST 4999)

The OCT Scholarship Program / Le Programme de bourses de l'Ordre

The Ontario College of Teachers’ Scholarship Program supports and sustains excellence in the teaching profession by reinforcing high standards and professional competence. College scholarships reward the achievements and characteristics of teacher candidates who model the ethical and professional standards, including care, trust, respect and integrity.

We are pleased to inform you that our 2023 scholarship application process is now open. Teacher candidates in an Ontario consecutive or concurrent teacher education program who will graduate in 2024 are eligible to apply for up to two of four scholarships of $1,500 each:

The Joseph W. Atkinson Scholarship recognizes a candidate who demonstrates both outstanding academic achievement and experience that reflects a high level of preparedness for teacher education.
The Brian P. McGowan Scholarship for Resilience, named in honour of the College’s fourth registrar, recognizes a candidate who demonstrates resilience and tenacity in the face of adversity.
The Ontario College of Teachers Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate Scholarship and the Ontario College of Teachers Intermediate/Senior Scholarship recognize candidates on a holistic basis that considers extracurricular activities and background experiences.

While applicants may apply for two scholarships, they can be awarded only one of them -such that four individual recipients are recognized. More information about the scholarship program and how to apply can be found on our website. The deadline for applying is August 31, 2023, at 5 p.m.
