The Faculty of Education, Office of Student Services staff are available on campus and online advising support . We are located in Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building (DB), 3rd floor room 3150.  Office hours are Monday - Friday  9:00am to 4:00pm.

Updating your contact information
Please remember if you change your residential address or phone number(s) you should update this information through the Registrar's Office website. Under My Student Records select Change My Profile. You are also encouraged to add a contact person in case of emergency.

BEd Teacher Candidates - How to figure out course schedule, information sessions and In School Practicum Placements.

  1. Visit MTRR  https://mtrr.blog.yorku.ca/
  2. Log into eClass https://eclass.yorku.ca/ and look at Course Announcements and what instructors have/or will be posting. Students can turn on notifications for the course announcements that will go directly to emails.
  3. Check student course schedule   Visit https://registrar.yorku.ca and then select "Plot My Timetable" under Courses & Enrolment
  4. Visit BEd Google Calendars Google calendars  https://www.yorku.ca/edu/students/undergraduate-programs/bed-program-calendars/  to see the scheduled class times (look at the section of the course(s) enrolled on students record).
  5. In School Placement: Log into School Placement (PIMS) using your Passport York credentials https://practicum.edu.yorku.ca/gateway/Login.aspx and select View Profile and access Study Level 1 - EDPR XXXX to see Practicum Facilitator.

To increase clarity and communications, students are advised to turn Notifications Setting "on" in eClass to ensure that any announcements made will go directly to their preferred inbox.  Please check this eClass Course Announcements regularly to ensure you have all recent updates.

The Mentoring and Teaching Resource Room has been developed by the Faculty of Education, York University with the support of the Ontario Ministry of Education. York's Mentoring and Teaching Resource Room (MTRR) is designed to support the important work that Mentor Teachers and Teacher Candidates are doing in Ontario classrooms.

Tuesday, August 30th- Full Day Orientation 10:00am – 3:30pm 

Please make careful note of where you need to be and when.  It’s posted on the MTRR (York U. Mentoring and Teaching Resource Room) https://mtrr.blog.yorku.ca/updates/    You will see all the sessions for Tuesday’s Orientation will be held in Accolade Building East (ACE) or Accolade Building West (ACW).   These two buildings can be accessed from either Fine Arts Road or Harry Arthurs Commons.

PARKING: If you are planning to drive to the campus, there is a cost for parking, and we encourage you to park at the Bennett Centre for Student Services / Admissions. The Orientation sessions are being held in ACW and ACE across from the BCSS.

SUBWAY:  If you plan to come via subway, get off at the York University station and go south and turn west onto Fine Arts Rd or off Harry Arthurs Commons.

EDPR1000 – Studies in Communities and their Schools morning or afternoon session on both days.   Meet your Course Director for ED/EDPR 1000 on Wednesday and Thursday (half days).  Please find your section of EDPR 1000 you’re enrolled in.  EDPR1000 does not plot on the timetable but is mentioned at the bottom of the fall term, under Classes with No Weekly Meetings.

EDPR 2000 winter section for Year 1 BEd Students Practicum Meetings - Tuesday, September 6, 2022   Year ONE BEd - ONLINE - ED/EDPR2000 Practicum Meetings and OCT presentation for September 6th. Students will be participating in Practicum Meetings and a Presentation from the Ontario College of Teachers on September 6th. This will be offered as virtual meetings/presentation.  The schedules is posted on the MTRR Practicum Facilitators for EDPR2000 will email students the Zoom link for the meetings.  Please check junk/spam mail too. 

Please log into PIMS to access your profile page to view your EDPR2000 Practicum Facilitator(s), and your School Board partner. This is also where your school placement will be posted (once confirmed).   Please note: At this time, YEAR ONE school placements are not confirmed.

Year 2 BEd TCs ~ Welcome back! 
Information regarding Practicum meetings and OCT presentation will  be posted in eClass Course Announcements.  2022-23 Practicum eClass will provide you with resources and information related to fall practicum.

YEAR TWO TC's will have Practicum Meeting #1 and a presentation from the Ontario College of Teachers on September 12th or September 13th, 2022. Practicum Meeting #2 will take place on September 14, 2022.  Schedule and links to access virtual meetings will be provided closer to the date.    Teacher Candidates are expected to attend ALL scheduled sessions.   Please refer to course and practicum calendars for all updated information.

BEd YEAR TWO BEd – ED Electives
Maximum numbers of electives required to completed for the BEd:

  • Primary/Junior candidates must complete three elective courses - one math based, one language/literacy based and one open choice to satisfy their BEd degree requirements.
  • Junior/Intermediate candidates must complete a total of two elective courses - one Math or Literacy based and one open choice to satisfy their BEd degree requirements.
  • Intermediate/Senior and Technological Education candidates must complete a total of three elective courses to satisfy their BEd degree requirements.
  • Glendon FSL BEd –  PJ and JI one Math elective and IS one open elective

Bachelor of Arts, Educational Studies New Student Orientation
Tuesday, September 6, 2022
New BA Educational Studies students can join us on the September 6th from 2:30pm-4:00pm and learn more about the BA program, hear from faculty who plan the experiential education experiences for the program and meet other students.   After orientation students will be provided a dinner before moving over to the YU stadium with all first-year students to be part of the larger York U.  welcome.   Visit: https://www.yorku.ca/orientation/

Apply for Continuing Education Student Awards and York U. Awards/Bursaries
Deadline October 15 – Student Financial Profile
Awards and bursaries are available to Faculty of Education Teacher Candidates and BA Educational Studies students through York U. Student Financial Profile. The Student Financial Profile is a multi-purpose online application form that is used to apply for university supports including scholarships, awards, bursaries and on-campus employment programs such as Work/Study, the Leadership, Engagement and Ambassadorship Program (LEAP) and Research at York (RAY). You should complete the SFP at the start of each academic session (once for fall/winter and once for summer) to be considered for a variety of programs.

The application periods for the Fall/Winter 2022-23 programs are as follows:

  • Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Program - Application open from August 2, 2022 - October 15, 2022
  • Work/Study, LEAP and RAY programs - Application open from July 18, 2022 - February 17, 2023
  • York University Undergraduate Bursary - Application open from August 2, 2022 - March 24, 2023
  • Graduate Bursary - Application open from September 6, 2022 - January 20, 2023
  • Graduate Scholarships - Application open from September 6, 2022 - April 28, 2023. Deadline dates vary by bursary/award. Please check the Scholarships and Awards page for more details.

BEd Graduates ~ Apply to the Ontario College of Teachers for your Membership registration
BEd students completing courses over the summer or from the spring session should be applying to the Ontario College of Teachers to become a certified member. There are several steps students will need to do to ensure there are no delays nominating BEd graduates after convocation. Membership registration should be completed as soon as possible.

  1. Review the OCT application information at  https://apps.oct.ca/OLR/Template.aspx?action=rege
  2. Apply for OCT membership/registration: Visit: www.oct.ca select Members and then Create an Account. In order for the BEd Student Services Office to send your recommendation, we require the six-digit OCT registration number for each graduating teacher candidate.
  3. Submit the six-digit Ontario College Teachers (OCT) registration number by ASAP to the Faculty of Education. The online form is available on the Faculty of Education website.
  4. Send Transcripts to OCT ~ Graduating BEd teacher candidates will need  to order all post-secondary transcripts  and  be sent to the Ontario College of Teachers. When ordering transcripts, please indicate that you wish for your York University transcript to be sent upon degree completion. Please order your transcript while completing your OCT application, using the OUAC Transcript Request available at https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/oct/en_CA/user/login
  5. Recommendation to OCT - The Faculty of Education will send your recommendation to OCT following program completed recorded on the student record.  Transcripts ordered by the student and the recommendation sent by the Faculty of Education are required for certification.

Mental Health and Wellness at York U .  Students  needing assistance or support  beyond their course work are encouraged to visit the resources available to them at YU.  http://mhw.info.yorku.ca/resources/resources-at-york/students/.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)  Students with a diagnosed disability are encouraged to connect with York's Accessibility Services (SAS).  Their office  provides academic accommodation and support to students with disabilities in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s Policy on accessible education for students with disabilities and York University Senate Policy on Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities.

As well, students needing non Academic Counselling can contact Student Counselling and Development (SCD)     This unit helps York students to realize, develop and fulfill their personal potential in order to maximally benefit from their university experience and manage the challenges of university life. Students come to SCD because of a wide range of concerns including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, abuse, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, eating and body image as well as issues related to sexuality, short-term individual, couple, and group counselling, crisis intervention and consultations regarding students in distress/crisis and issues related to overall mental health.

Religious Education: Teaching in Catholic Schools - Who Should Attend
Any undergrad BEd student in the final year (yr 2 ) of BEd and interested in preparing to teach in Catholic schools.  NOTE: This course is open only to York University Faculty of Education undergraduate students. This course is not equivalent to the Religious Education, Part 1 additional qualification.
