Faculty of Education Public Lecture Series March 7, 2023
Climate change, biodiversity loss, and rising inequalities, whether happening locally or in other parts of the world, not only impact our individual future but are central for collective action in tackling these and other global challenges. How can we understand global issues, and their interconnectedness? How can we learn to live sustainably and ethically without the feeling of only giving up or cutting back?

United Nations member states agreed upon a plan towards a sustainable future, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. Countries are called upon to provide quality education that addresses our common future by positioning sustainability as a purpose of education and encouraging young people to become global citizens.

What does this exactly mean for educators, parents, and students? Are we to add more content to an already overcrowded curriculum? This presentation addresses roles and concrete ways for educators at all levels, education professionals, students, and parents to understand the need, become engaged, and make a difference. This is a free event and all are welcome to attend. Learn More

Advising packages for BEd students yr.  2 (Semester 3 ad 4) 2023-24
The Students Services team will be working on the Yr. 2  Advising/Enrollment packages for FW 2023.   Once the packages are complete, they will be sent by email to all students moving into year 2 and continuing in the BEd program this September.  Included in the package will be the course schedule, Monday - Friday class schedule, F/W ED elective choices, ED 2 Practicum meetings, reminder to reapply for Police Record Check/VSS and any important dates for FW 2023 academic year.  Plan to have the packages ready by mid-May or earlier.

To all BEd students entering Y2 in FW2023-2024
The Practicum Information Management System (PIMs) will open to teacher candidates moving into Year 2 of the Bachelor of Education program.  If you have already completed Year 1 of both In-School Practicum placement (ED/EDPR 2000) and education courses, this applies to you, please continue reading the instructions below.  If this does not apply to you but you may have further questions, please email osp@edu.yorku.ca

BEd Students heading into Year 2 for FW 2023-2024 must submit Practicum Placement Zone preferences and School Board Choice
ALL BEd students returning to complete Y2 must submit their Practicum Placement Location/Zone Choice for the 2023-2024 academic year. Students will log on to the Practicum Information Management System (PIMs) to select school geographical zone preferences and School Board choice of either Public or Catholic.

The online form will be available starting Monday, March 6, 2023, and is due no later than Friday, April 14, 2023. Once logged in to PIMs, click on “Practicum Placement Preferences” to complete the form.  If you do not have the “Practicum Placement Preferences” option available to you, please email practicumoffice@edu.yorku.ca.

All students returning to complete their Y2 school practicum requirements this September, must submit a request for a school placement regardless if one was previously submitted.  If preferences are not received by the deadline date, we cannot confirm a school placement for September 2023.

Please note, we only place within our partner GTA School Boards, no exceptions are made.  Students must be prepared to travel a minimum of 60-90 minutes to their school placement. Placements are confirmed according to geographical zone choice and not based on where a student resides.

Please be aware that all practicum placements are confirmed by our partner school boards and our ability to secure placements is dependent on the availability of host mentor teachers at participating schools---and include considerations for OCT practicum accreditation requirements. While you may request specific placement zones with our Practicum Office, we are at the invitation of our partner school boards to confirm these placements. We cannot guarantee placement availability in your requested zone.
